I am NOT looking to install a remote starter. I'm attempting to create a device to fix a driveability issue less expensively than the current options on the market. (I'd like to monitor and possibly interefere with the clutch signal which may or may not affect DBW lag / rev hang issues. The only option currently available is to flash the firmware which costs hundreds of dollars.)
Where can I find the clutch wire on a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit 5MT?
I am fully aware of the safety and usability issues involved in messing with it, I won't be disabling it, etc.

You would usually look at the top of the clutch pedal

Should be above the clutch, look for a twin to the brake switch.

Unfortunately, I followed the pedals all the way up to their brackets and to the firewall, and was unable to locate a single wire or switch on either the brake or clutch.
The photo I took is pretty worthless, so I won't embed it, but here it is for anyone who wants to click it:

On a VW forum, I've been told this:
"On early cars its on the pedal, on late cars its on the clutch master cylinder in the engine bay."
I'll post again with more details when I find it, which I probably won't do until the weekend.

So, I found it. It's in the engine bay on the firewall. You have to remove the battery and the battery tray to even see it, and I can't imagine what I'd have to take apart to actually work on it. I can barely touch it. I'll have to look for the PURPLE / black and hope I can do what I need there.

Astrostart shows a PURPLE / black on connector E in the fuse relay box under the drivers dash. It's a negative "start" trigger. -------------
