well, pretty much as the title says. my situation is this: i have a 97 Prelude which i has a Viper 3002 alarm system installed into last year(here on referred to as CAR A) which through a series of unfortunate events, has now become scrap spare i keep in the back yard. and recently i obtained an 01 of the same make and model which far as i can tell has a Clifford Arrow 5 alarm installed (here on referred to as CAR B) which is now my pride and joy, so, because various reasons, id like to remove CAR B's current alarm and replace it with the Viper alarm. i called around and got a few quotes. . . . none too pleasing. most shops quoted me at 150-200 (but i dont really trust any shop much due to lack of experiences and i REALLY rather know who is messin with my car if it somehow cant be me) and BestBuy(not that they're all that pro, but they uphold the warranties, so that gives me peace of mind) quoted me at about 400 :0. . . . i might as well get a whole new one installed.

so that being the situation i started thinking about trying the transfer myself, seeing as how ive taken alot of DIYs on my own before with ABUNDANT research and above all patience. now, ive researched the subject of alarm DIY and from what i found. . . not for the faint of heart (least not lacking in experience anyhow) but what i had in mind about this is. . . seeing as how its a transfer to a same kind car, were i to take my time, disecting, taking pics, recording and mapping out the ENTIRE install in CAR A before i even touch CAR B, how feasible would this transfer be as a DIY?

so to summarise:
how doable would a
removal and transfer of Viper3002 alarm
from 1997 Honda Prelude
to 2001 Honda Prelude (which will need Clifford Arrow5 removed)
by someone who messes with electronics frequantly(built PCs, installed stereos/GPSs etc etc) but NEVER installed an alarm)

thanks in advance for any help or advice, and hopefully, this will eventually become a progress thread

It's dead easy,  the vehicle electrics for your new vehicle are identical to the old, much of the unit wiring will be the same colours, (I'm not entirely sure), so first remove Viper, second remove Arrow, note what fitted where and what colours, then refit Viper.

would it be possible to just swap the unit itself and splice the wires accordingly (like as is done with a stereo)?

similiar to a a stereo, yes, only thing is wire colouring on units will be different, and more wires involved, tag what wires did what on the clifford, and remove, then map your viper to the respective points, but you will have to remove the cllifford's wiring entirely if that's what you're asking.
