I installed a DEI 5901 in my 07 Tacoma and everything works just fine. However, the radio (and other accessories) comes on during remote start. My previous vehicles would not power the radio during RS. The AC comes on so it doesn't appear that I have anything wrong.

Is it normal for the radio to come on during remote start on this vehicle?

It all depends on the car - some cars required the ACC that powers the radio to be powered during remote start, some do not.

It shouldn't hurt anything that it is like that.
