car is a 1997 oldsmobile cutlass supreme and it has steering wheel controls for the radio and heater controls.  i put in a aftermarket cd player and lost all of my controls. i have found a aftermarket controller for the radio but not the Hvac controls. Anyone know of one or know how to fix the issue??

I cant imagine the radio having to much to do with the steering wheel controls for the Hvac i would think it justs acts as a power source but i dont know.

i've worked on 2 of these recently.one guy never mentioned it (maybe it didnt work anyway) and the other guy had already hacked up wiring in the car when he made a sad attempt at installing his radio so i didnt even pay attention to it. when you installed the radio did you use a harness ? if not you may have cut and touched one of the data wires which would have maybe burned a circuit and probably need to be fixed by the dealer. if u did use a harness take a look at it and there should be 3 used portions of it 2 for speakers and 1 for power. the 4th section wont have any wires coming out of it for the aftermarket radio. look on the factory harness side where those wires are and try metering them and see what you come up with. i dont think theres a data interface for the a/c steering wheel controls since the a/c controls dont use IR and pretty much only a small group of cars in 97 had that option. 12 years later its still only available on few higher end models cadillac, bmw, mercedes etc....... but you may want to look at a pac interface to at least get your steering wheel controls back. ANYWAY.... if none of this works you can always check the fuses.

The factory radio in the Oldsmobiles was a critical part of the steering wheel controls. It was the only car line that had controls for both the radio and HVAC in those days. It received the data from the controls and translated it. The radio then commanded the HVAC controls. The only way to retain those functions is to hook the factory radio back up to the necessary wires and remount it elsewhere.
