On the Viper 5901, the remote start harness has 2 wires as part of the remote start/anti-grind feature with a green wire (starter input - key side of the starter kill wire - pin 87a of the onboard starter kill relay) and a violet wire (starter output - starter side of starter kill - pin 30 of the onboard starter kill relay).
Question: on remote start operation, the violet wire is obviously powered, but is the green wire powered as well or does it remain dead? In other words - on remote start does the relay switch pin 30 away from in 87a?
The answer is yes, if the alarm is armed during R/S.
- The coil will be energized, as it is seeing +12V from the IGN and GROUND from the GWA sources.
- The relay switches #30 to #87, therefore GREEN(#87a) is removed from the circuit.

Is this also true wnen alarm is not armed? I thoguht GWA was active on the Viper 5901 during any remote start operation - even when alarm was disarmed, but I could be wrong.
I assume I confused you with my acronym. My apologies. I re-read your original post and, since you've programmed anti-grind, the relay will always see GWR, during R/S operation. It will only see GWA when armed.
- GWA = Ground While Armed/Active
- GWR = Ground While Running
To answer the question of your original post simply, only if the alarm is armed or anti-grind is programmed on. There is a seperate internal relay/circuit that powers the starter wire.
