I am installing a remote start on my pickup and it wont work for me.  I am reading about the passlock on gm vehicles.  Do all chevy have this feature, if not how can you tell if you have it.  If you do have , how do you bypass it.

Go to Home Depot and get a blank key cut and try to start your truck with this. If it starts you have no Passlock, if it doesn't start, then you need to bypass the Passlock system.

Yes.... Search the forum for wiring charts and which passlock bypass to buy.

You have it. Just buy a bypass or use resistors and a relay.

thank you for your suggestions, I went to home depot and had a key cut and it starts the vehicle.  So i guess I dont have the passlock, is there any other security on these trucks?  the problem im having is when i hit the start it will crank over , the engine fires and then dies.  when i check diagnostics the led blinks 3 times which means there is "low or no rpm".  I have the tach wire hooked up right behind the guage cluster and have tested it , it reads about 7 on my ac meter when running.  Any ideas on what my problem could be?

Actually, like I said unfortunately you do have Passlock II on your truck. That method of checking was for transponder key systems. Your truck has the resistance in the key cylinder I believe. I've installed remote starts into 1999 and 2002 and the set-up was identical, it hasn't changed. I'm pretty sure yours wouldn't be any different. But it will tell you in your owners manual that you have Passlock II. Any way if your vehicle turns over and starts by remote then immediately dies, it's due to the Passlock not being bypassed. Try turning the key to on but not starting it. Then attempt to remote start it and see if it stays running.

thank you, i started the truck and then engaged the remote.  then turned the ignition off and it kept running.  So is it easier to buy a bypass or do the resistor and relay bypass.  keep in mind im a newbie at this stuff.  thanks again for you help on this.

the easiest thing to do is to get a bypass...but the least expensive way is to use relays and a resistor (which requires cutting and splicing wires and testing resistance with an ohm meter. I've used a PLDATA from bypasskit.com and those are pretty simple. You can also use the IPPME or the HPBK3 on your Silverado. Hope that helps. https://www.bypasskit.com/result.asp

I used the DEI 555L on my 2002 GMC Sierra. Here's instructions for it: https://www.directed.com/guides/manuals/ig/accessories/N555L_7-02B.pdf.

I grabbed the tach wire @ the module under the hood. It's toward the lower front of the driver's side. Sorta under the battery, just behind the radiator.

I've had it in for about 6 months, and have had no problems.
