Car: 2008 Mustang GT without a factory alarm
Product: Viper 5900 series alarm with remote start (will not be using remote start)

Question: I'm trying to install a Viper 5900 alarm system in my 08 gt and the instructions say to connect the green 14 gauge wire from the satellite relay harness to the key side of the ignition. It doesn't state which wire to tap into. Does anyone know?

It's probably the key side of the cut starter wire. The purple is the starter side of the starter wire.

ditto with ajstetler...that wire goes to the ignition side of the cut starter wire.  it should be the dark green in the ignition harness.

So whatever wire I tap into and cut for the ignition wire I then splice in this green keyside starter wire to it?

You are cutting the starter wire...not the ignition wire.. Once cut, you will have the key side of the starter wire, and the starter side. The key side is the side coming from the key cylinder. The starter side, is the other side of the cut wire. Green goes to ignition ( the side going to ignition cylinder)) side of the cut wire. Violet will go to the other side of the cut starter wire.

Thanks guys, I successfully installed the alarm on the Mustang. Only have 1 issue though.

When I arm the vehicle my remote beeps twice like it's supposed to, then indicates the door is still open with a third beep even though both doors are closed. Any ideas?

this is possibly your problem. light GREEN/ YELLOW is dome light, you dont want to use this. door trigger is yellow/light green and is positive trigger unlike the negative triggered dome light wire.

yes i know. how did it meter when you tested it? you did test it before just tying into it right? if you did not test it first how can you possibly know if you tied into the right wire at all? and did you use the positive door trigger input on your unit, or are you still using the negative trigger input?

Disconected the negative door trigger input leaving the positive connected and now it arms fine

First off I want to say a big THANK YOU to ajstetler, dtk1, ckeeler, mikvot, and joch1314 here at the12volt for their assistance with the wiring on our 08 Mustang GT. Thanks guys!

Since we could not find any videos online regarding the installation of an alarm system on a Mustang, Chris and myself at MOTORZ TV performed a how to installation of a Viper 5900 alarm system on a 2008 Mustang GT. We wanted to show enthusiasts out there that a car alarm is not all that hard to install but does take some time sorting out the wiring. Once that's done, everything else is pretty straight forward.

Here's a link to the video.

Thoughts, comments, and suggestions are welcome. We mentioned the12volt towards the end of the video. Again, thanks for the help guys!

I see no mention of the most important tool during an install. The multimeter. Also, did you finish the remote start portion of it? If so, it's not gonna remote start when armed. You reversed the ignition side and starter side. Other than that, very well made video. Good job!

Thanks! We're not using the remote start on this vehicle although it came with the kit.
