Can I use 2 antennae on a viper 550esp? I know it sounds crazy but in all the cars I have had a viper 550 in, It only has long range if the antennae side of the car is facing you. Or could I mount an antennae outside like the radio antennae? I know I would probably have to use diodes and isotate each one. By the way this is the 4th car with the 550. This is the first with the new antennae

Sounds like you may be mounting the antennas too high on the windshield. What kind of cars are these? Some have a coating near the top that inhibits reception. Also being too close to the metal of the car will minimize range. Try finding a spot lower down near the pillar on one side. By adding another antenna you will probably just minimize the range on each one although I'm not sure.

this one is a bmw convertible and the first one I installed the 550 on. All the other cars were pofessionally installed And I had nothing but trouble from day one with all of them. Two were the same shop, and they said is was the alarm itself but whe the second car acted the same as the first I knew it was the shop, they are now out of business. The other place has unfriendly people and untrained staff. The system I installed is problem free, only been done a few days. I don't have a range prob with this car but I wanted to make sure I wouldn't. By the way the other convertible I had was better with its reception than the cars with a steel roof. So I guess always get a convertible huh. This antennae I put right under the top of the front window near the A pillar. Is this not a good place for it? The wire supplied for the antennae is about ten feet long so I could move it just about anywhere.

plus with all dei alarms you decrease the range of the antenna if you bunch up the remaining antenna wire.

Some tint jobs can effect the range but DEI makes a remote called the Venom with its own antenna

I mounted my antenna up high on the A-pillar near the front windshield, and have no range problems. I didn't want the antenna visible from inside the vehicle. I guess I'm just anal.
