Do or do they not have immobilizers? I'm finding A LOT of mixed info here. Volvo forums say no but guides say yes. Buddy want's a RS but can't get a new key cause we can't find anyone local to cut a new key so it's kinda pointless to install a RS if we can't even get a new chipped key if needed.

here's a thought, if you're still unsure, cut a normal unchipped copy of the keys and try to start the car, if it starts up, off you go, if it doesn't and some sort of security icon begins flashing then start looking for bypasses.

Any car made for the European market had to have a factory transponder by Jan 1st. 97. Therefore it's most likely. If you're not sure, don't ask us, look. Remove cowling around ignition switch and see if there's an antenna around it. Try to hotwire the car with the ign. key about 3 feet from the switch. If this fails until you insert the key in the switch then you have a transponder immobiliser.

Actually I was surprised I got away with that, but for two things, first all we get here is the 556U, so I'm effectively hotwiring virtually every R/S I do. Secondly I'm talking about the usual checks with car in neutral or park if auto with hand (parking brake on). You or I wouldn't even think about having to do that but I take your point. Unless you're pro it's a case of don't try this at home!

No immobilizer in the car. woot. Just three problems with my install. (i used the wire guide from https://techservices.audiovox.com/) 1. when the factory alarm is armed u can't pop the trunk. will 1 pulse to the door unlock unarm the factory alarm? 2. When locking with the after market fob and than using the key to enter the car the factory alarm doesn't sound, but, when u stick the key in and start the factory alarm goes off. 3. The headlights flash with the parking lights. Not good with the HID/projector set up he has. Got any tips on that one?

You should be able to use the R/S status wire or something similar either to pos keys ense or an aux on the R/S to dis-arm then re-arm factory unit whilst in r/start mode. Wire the light outputs or 1 output (if only one) and 2 x 1N5404 diodes to the direction indicators.
