Subject: a couple quirks with the viper 5901

So I've installed the security features (still have yet to do the remote start) for my viper 5901 and I'm having a couple issues.

First, and this is the least important, but about 30% of the time when I hit the disarm button (from either remote), the doors unlock and the siren chirps twice but the flashers only flash once. It's not an issue with the flashers since I only feel the brain's onboard relay click once. It also seems like the second chirp is weaker than normal, or it ends too short.

Second, the actual alarm seems odd. The siren seems to restart after 3 seconds and doesn't go through all six tones or whatever.

And lastly, the remote simply wouldn't stop the alarm. I tried hitting the arm button, which is supposed to stop the alarm but keep the car locked, and the disarm button.

Any idea what is going on? Could they be related?

So I was thinking why not obey the site rules and tells us make, model and year then we might answer your question.

I would take it back to the installer and have them swap out the brain under warranty.  The issues you are having all seem brain related, not installation related.

Kevin, I'm thinking this is self installed...so he would take it back to himself.

The symptoms you are describing could be a bad ground. or a bad brain. or a bad install.

Apologies, I didn't think which car it is was relevant. It's a 2001 toyota celica.

And yes, it's a self install, and it was installed correctly. My ground is good.

How do you know your ground is good?  Because that was my first thought, frankly that car or the Supra are not "problematical".  If you're getting the correct voltage measuring the PD between the reds and the black at the brain AND the antenna plugs are properly pushed home then I'm with Kevin on the brain.

Yeah the voltage between the red and black was correct (was the first thing I thought of as well), but I will double check just to make sure.

I'll give the place I got it from a call.

Gave them a call and they're going to send me a new siren, brain and antenna.

Another little thing, when I turn on the remote start and the car is running, if I disarm the system the car will stop running, but then it will start again a couple seconds later.

sounds to me like you used GWA (Ground while Armed) and not GWR (Ground while Running).....

^ Hm? I'm not sure what you mean. Are you implying that either wire needs to be grounded for it to work right? There is no wire like that.

No, what kgerry is saying is that the GWA goes to ground when armed and GWR goes to ground when running, it has nothing to do with physically grounding these wires.

Right, but those are outputs, not inputs so I don't see what that has to do with the engine shutting off when I disarm the car. And it happens whether the car is previously armed or disarmed.

i am only speculating that if you required a bypass module and used GWA instead of GWR then that's exactly what would happen, as the module would disengage when you disarm the alarm....

other than that the alarm and R/S functions are mutually exclusive, so one should not affect the other....did you wire up the flex 2 relay??   it could be that it is disengaging when you disarm the alarm, dropping out one of your IGN's.....   again, just speculating......

^ Yes I did. I wired it exactly like this:

1 PINK (+) IGNITION 1 INPUT/OUTPUT <--- direct to ignition 2 wire
2 RED / WHITE (+) FUSED (30A) IGNITION 2 / FLEX RELAY INPUT 87 <--- constant +12v
3 ORANGE (+) ACCESSORY OUTPUT <--- direct to accessory wire
4 VIOLET (+) STARTER OUTPUT (CAR SIDE OF THE STARTER KILL) <--- start side of starter wire
5 GREEN (+) STARTER INPUT (KEY SIDE OF THE STARTER KILL WIRE) <--- key side of start wire
6 RED (+) FUSED (30A) IGNITION 1 INPUT <--- constant +12v
7 PINK/WHITE (+) IGNITION 2 / FLEX RELAY OUTPUT <--- car side of ignition wire
8 PINK/BLACK (+) FLEX RELAY INPUT 87A key side (if required) of FLEX RELAY <--- key side of ignition wire
9 RED / BLACK (+) FUSED (30A) ACCESSORY/STARTER INPUT <--- constant +12v

I got my new parts for the alarm today so when I'll get that chance I'll install them. Maybe that's all this is.

But what is weird is that after the engine shuts off, it starts backt up again. So the alarm is engaging the starter motor again, so it seems to me like it's more than an ignition wire dropping voltage to an ignition wire.

But again maybe it's just a brain/alarm problem.

Still the same issue with a new brain.

What is your GWA hooked up to?

Also what bypass module are you using and can you give your wiring for that as well?
