2nd starter, 09 tacoma?

Vehicle: 2009 Toyota Tacoma, 4x4, v-6, AT

Syetem: Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5

I have been searching these forums and collecting parts (immobilizer bypass module, misc wiring sruff) and diagrams for the install and ran into something I've not seen before, namely the 2nd starter wire from the ignition switch.  One is GREEN/ black (takes a fairly direct path to starter motor windings via a relay) and one is black white (ends up going through p/n switch).The Matrix manual says to "cut the starter wire" and connect it to the satellite relay harness input.  OK, but what about the 2nd starter wire?  I assume it needs to get powered (I saw something about adding a relay for this) but does it need to be cut, too?  And does it matter which one goes into the Matrix harness and which gets the separate relay?

I also see that there are 2 ignition wires although the 2nd ignition wire seems to only apply to manual trans where it feeds the clutch interlock.  I assume I don't need to bother connecting that even if the wire exists in the truck's harness?

Also approeciate any specific Tacoma tips, guys.

cut the wire that resuls in the starter turning over, one out of the two starter wires will do this, when cut, the starter must not turn over, this would be the one you are connecting to the satellite harness,

using a relay power the second wire like this

pin 30- 12 volts permanent or good ignition source

pin-85 to ground while running from system

pin 86- first starter input feed

pin 87- second starter wire ( do not cut this wire)

and power all accesory and ignition circuits that are present, to avoid check engine codes, and lastly i've never done a tacoma so i don't have any tips, maybe someone else will chime in there. cheers

Thanks, that makes sense.  Only question is where to get the relay coil ground (pin 85 in your example) while remote starting.  It sounds like this wire might be the right one, left in default mode for constant - while remote cranking... assuming it releases when cranking stops.

H3/5 BLUE/WHITE (-) 200 mA 2ND STATUS/REAR DEFOGGER- LATCHED/PULSED

This wire supplies a 200mA output as soon as the module begins the remote start process. The H3/1 BLUE wire

can also be used to activate the defogger trigger (latched/pulsed) 10-seconds after the remote start engages.

Excellent, thanks.  One other quick quest.  It looks like cutting either starter wire will keep it from turning over.  the BLACK/ white(labeled S1) goes through the p/n switch and then turns BLACK / YELLOW to energize and close a relay that is in the path on the GREEN/ black between the switch labeled s2 and the starter windings. Not sure which one to cut... or if it even matters.

wiring diagram is here as a zipped file.  drill down to the individual pdf files and the startng circuit is 68-71. I don't see a way to attach it here.

oh, the tacoma wiring is the last link on that page linked above.  It's for 2007 but should be similar to my 09.

It theortetically shouldn't matter which starter wire you cut, but I've always made it a habit to cut the heavier of the two wires.

The Tacoma's thicker starter wire will make for good connections with the heavy wires that come out of the Clifford's relay pack.

Hooking up big wires to little wires is always kind of a pain anyway.

Then when you go to connect the relay to the car's second starter wire, you can choose whatever size wire you want (at least the same size as what's in the truck).

Thanks for the great info, guys.  I am just an end user who has done a few of these over the years.  Things have sure changed and gotten more complicated since I installed a first gen Cliffird on my firebird back in the mid-80s! 

Next issue I am dealing with it the bypass module.  From searching here I discovered that there are new ones that connect at the DLC instead of at the ECM like the XPress Kit 05 I bought.  Wires on it look too short to make t all the way over to the ecm and splicing into the ecm wire makes me a little queasy.  So I am going to send that back and probably get a Fortin Pk-Over-All.

Yes, sorry to say but the XK05 is definitely inferior to the other modules out there.

The key-override-all is perfect. The key-override-2 is a few dollars cheaper because it doesn't do as many different kinds of cars, but it'll work just the same for you.

ADS (idatalink.com) has a few nice products as well, I just forget the part numbers.

Really, well i learned something new there Chris, i've never actually done a tacoma, but i made that statement about the starter because of my experience with mostly nissans, they have two starter wires, but only one actually turns the solenoid, so you have to cut the one that does this for the immobiliser, i've done alot of toyotas too, can't recall encountering two starter wires, but then again, i'm from the carribeanposted_image.
