hello, i am having problems with my viper 5900 alarm, when i press the lock button on the transmitter .. shows the hood blinking on the transmitter screen after locking all doors and system has been armed. Before i had any problems, if i would disarm the alarm, open any doors and close them again, the led light would start blinking and after 10 to 15 secs the alarm would arm by itself and all doors would lock...now it doesnt do that, when i close all doors the led doesnt blink before the 10 secs to arm itself. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

Lets get some more detail...Year,Make,Model...How long has alarm been installed/working properly...? Has the vehicles battery went dead...? On some units all programming goes back to default settings when power is lost...! It sounds like it might be seeing the hood open...Inspect the hood and see if there is a pinswitch mounted on hood...Inspect wiring at switch...

your hood switch is obviously giving problems, have it checked along with it's wiring.

It is a 93 toyota supra, the alarm has been installed for more than a year now maybe two, it was working fine before i replaced the alternator fuse, there is a pin switch mounted on the hood.

is there a way to have the brain reset. ive tried while having a door opened and the key in the ignition, then hold the deactivation button that is hidden for a while after the second press, but it doesnt do anything.

i checked the pin switch and its wire and they are both ok. i checked the brain and all wires seemed to be ok and in place.

Lets dis-connect the hood pin wire and see what happens...Why did the alternator fuse blow...?

Im guessing it is not auto-arming ...The feature where you shut your door and the alarm automatically arms and locks doors...Probably like T&T said...There is most likely a problem w/ your hood pin/wire...Do you have a DMM...?

how do i disconnect the hood pin wire in a safe way, also the alternator fuse blew because a friend and i were washing the car from underneath and i guess the fuse blew because the alternator got wet and then the car wouldnt start, so we had to replace it.

it is exactly what you are saying tommy, the alarm is not auto-arming, plus it shows the hood icon when i arm it my self so i guess it is related on a same problem causing both things to happen. what is a DMM, sorry im a noob with this things :)

a dmm is a digital multimeter. at the hood pin most of them has the wire just put on with a spade connectors if no probably just cut it in the best place that you will be able to hook it back up . If the hood is flashing on the remote there is a problem with the hoodpin. I usually run mercury switches and if it is not ground correctly then it will give you a problem. Just look to see that it is contacting the hood and that it is connected in the right way.

a couple of days ago i unplugged the socket from the main bain with all the wires in which the pin switch wire is and then plugged back in, but nothing happened. would it be different from what i did to cut and put back together the pin switch wire
