If I remember correctly..The Hornet 553T is fairly similiar to the Viper 550 ESP. But not identical. There are some slight differences ( like programmable run time, range, etc. for a better comparison go to www.directed.com and compare the two alarms. ) Basically, The hornet is one of the lower line of Alarms made by DEI. However, just because it is a lower line does not mean it's not any good. It is a fairly good alarm, and like all DEI products....you have the ability to expand it later if you need to ( add channels using the 450T Channel Expander adding 6 Channels. adding additional sensors, etc. ) I will say this, In my opinion, it's a lot better than one of those all in one alarms you get at walmart, with everythign built into the siren.

As far as extra parts...from what I can tell no...but every car is different. It also depends on if you have an immobilizer, etc.

As far as price...depends on the shop...some charge just $50...others can go up to $150 or more...shop around for the best price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Viper 550, Hornet 553T, Sidewinder 6500, and Python 1500 are pretty much identical except for cosmetics. DEI (the parent company) markets the alarms under different names so they have more of a market presence. This allows the individual dealers to have their own "territory".
