1) After installing the 991 with the xk05 bypass the 4runner starts and then stops after 5-10 seconds. When I do the diagnostics the LED blinks 4 times which tells me transmitter shutdown (or push button). I have tried virtual tach, voltage, off and tachometer settings. The tach wire is connected to the ecu and is programmed.

2) The parking lights do not flash, but I can hear the signal relay clicking.

Try disconnecting bypass and see if it will remain running w/ key in ignition...Set to tachless and try again...

With bypass disconnected and key in ignition the exact same thing happens...it starts for 5-10 seconds and then dies.

then it sounds like you do not have tach set properly...you posted the parking lights arent flashing, but there connected to car...? After you r/s take battery out of remote...or if you have a activation input(like w/ add-on r/s) could take battery out of remote and start it that way...to rule out faulty remote. Grab a meter and check hood pin wire, brake wire, ignition...it is early in the morning .Maybe after a cup of coffee or two...Ill have a better response...

Because the remote starter is not working I disconnected the wires to the dei bypass last night. This morning I went out to start the car with the key and the exact same symptoms occurred. It started and then died after a few seconds. I was running late so I left the bypass disconnected and just wired the imi and imo wires together. Also I cut the tach wire, then the car started right up with the key. So I figure it's a problem with the tach, the imi/imo or the bypass.

The car wouldn't even start for one second if it was an immobilizer issue. So your XK05 was fine.

And it says transmitter shutdown on the diagnostics? DEI has had some antenna issues, but I'm not sure if it was with that model or not.

Try this: Hit the remote start so the car starts up, and right away unplug the antenna. If it then stays running, you'll know it's some sort of RF issue.

You could then try reprogramming all the remotes just for the fun of it, couldn't hurt to try.

P.S. You don't have the WHITE/ blue "remote start activation input" hooked up to anything at all, do you?

Ok I have the remote start working now. I think I had the imi wires reversed. Also I added the rear defroster by tapping into the GREEN/ red wire behind the climate control console. The only problem I'm having is the security light stays flashing after the remote start. I tried the status output connected to the keysense and that didn't do it. thanks for everyones ideas
