Hi all,
My daughter's car decided it didn't want to start yesterday. I know it is because of the anti-theft (PASSLOCK II) system. I am just curious about the wire colors - are they always Yellow & Black?

Also, in searching for answers in the forums, I read that temperature can effect the resistance, which I already know because I work with electronics all the time, but is it enough to wreak havoc on the system as far as working in summer but not in winter???

I have read that alot of people have had very good success in just using a resistor. I put one in another car a few years ago and it worked but I don't remember what kind of car it was.

Thanks,
Kevin

Definitely a '99, right?

The Monte Carlo didn't get Passlock II until the 2000 model year.

The '99 has GM's first-generation anti-theft system, dating back to the 1986 Corvette and 1988 Camaro/Firebird.

It's called VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System), but it was occasionally referred to as Pass Key II on window stickers and sales literature.

Anyway, as long as it's a '99, Google the words "vats bypass" (without the quotation marks).....the first and third links that show up have good information.
