First, has anyone used the 6-7 dollar units on eBay? Any good? Reliable? Secure or easy to trick? Next, is there a better made unit out there? Something that has more than the 2.75-3" range of the ebay unit? Looking for a good ignition kill option for a jeep wrangler that is left without top and doors very often (including overnight).

Don't think you will find them in the US, you might try looking at Euro manufacturer's sites or DEI's UK sites. Surely late model Wranglers have a perfectly good factory transponder and with a soft top I would personally go all the way with a decent alarm with proximity detection. + Layered defences.
