Well, im putting a push to start button in my 98 VW vr6 jetta. im going to use this switch Swtich Link i know im goin to have to use a few relays but, alas, im not good ant figuring them out myself...do a damn fine job of readin diagrams tho...

what i want to do is wire the switch so the key has to be in the "run" position to start the car, also, i would like to have an anti-grind to quell the passenger urge to push the shiny button.

as far as the illumination on the switch i would like to find a way to have it only light up when the key is turned and the engine is NOT running...

basically the light is on until the car is started and then it does nothing until the key is turned back off and on.

i know it sounds a little complicated but any input would help

FYI THIS is the link to the wire chart on here

I would look in to either finding a pushbutton start module or possibly finding a frequency switch.  The frequency switch can be triggered off of a fuel injector and can break the output of the switch (and the power to the light).

yea, i hear what your saying on the buy a premade. But, i find all of the prefab switches to be either to gawdy or just plain "cheap" looking. So ive got my little heart set on that bulgin switch.
i've found a few diagrams to starter kills on here and was wondering if any of you guys could show me how to adapt that to my situation.
in the meantime ima go read more on it myself but some advice would be greatly appreciated

Does the vehicle have an oil pressure gauge, or just an idiot light?

Something like that but i want it to be so that the starter, and the light in the switch, dont get power unless the e-brake is pulled
