Pin 109 at the ECU - brown in color.

The service manual shows that it reads 12vdc when the tranny is in neutral and 0vdc when in any gear so you may need to reverse the logic of the signal (with a transistor, preferably).

i did one of these awhile back and thought that i had found a wire that read ground when in neutral?

I know the older ones did, I've never done an '07.  It's always possible the FSM is wrong - I've found quite a few errors in Nissan manuals.

Did you find your wire...? and did you get done with what you were trying to do? (what were you attempting?)

no i havent found the wire. its a friend of mine's car. he bought it with an alarm and remote start but since its a stick whoever installed it didnt hook up the neutral safety wire from the remote start so it will start in any gear. and he doesnt like that so im going to hook it up for him. i was pretty sure theres a wire that rest at ground when the car is in neutral that i can use but if not and its only the brown wire i was told about then i can just use a relay i suppose to switch that wire to negative for the alarm.

How about using the positive brake shutdown wire instead of the negative hood shutdown. Just make sure you Diode isolate the Neutral Saftey wire from the Brake Wire, this way when you put your car in neutral the brake lights won't come on. Hooking it up this way will require no relay draining on your battery, just 2 diodes.

If it does show 12vdc in N then the + brake shut down won't work.

If you need to change the polarity and want to use a relay, at least use a reed relay - you don't want the relay to click every time the car is shifted in to N (which is why I recomended using a transistor).

Your right, I was thinking of a suburu I had done like that. Different application. It wil not work on this car, I should have read KPierson's description of the Neutral Saftey wire better. Use a relay or as he recommended a transistor.

ive never used a transistor in this way could you explain please?

If you use a general purpose transistor (like a 2n2904) you would wire the base to the P/NP wire (brown wire in car) the emitter to ground and the collector to the alarm.

You should incorporate a few resistors to protect the transistor - a 470 ohm resistor between the P/NP signal wire and the base should work, and then a 100 ohm resistor between the collector and the alarm.

This will convert the polarity without making any noise.

that part number you had on there. where do i get that? is that a radio shack number?

It isn't a Radioshack number, but they should have the 2n3904 transistor.  Any general purpose NPN transistor will work.

Have we found out what he is installing yet? This is why I ask:

Well here's what's up he's got an alarm remote start combo that was previously installed its one that can be used on a manual ot has the safety wire that has to show ground in ordere to remote start, so my plan is to connect this to the neutral safety wire like I've done several times before so the car won't start unless its in neutral. Unfortunetaly I haven't done one on a 350z for quite awhile so I figured someone on here would know off the top of their head. So to answer your accusation no I'm not trying to do what youtr thinking I've been in this industry for 15 years I now how it works. But I'm trying to fix it so my customers car quits lunging and won't start in gear like it does now.

Is it really an issue to install a "automatic" remote start system in a manual vehicle IF the vehicle has a sufficient OEM neutral safety wire?  I realize the danger (and liability) of installing a system with no safeties or even homemade safeties, but when an OEM safety is incorporated I personally don't see an issue with it.  If it is against the site rules please feel free to delete my posts on the topic!
