If anyone has any troubleshooting info on the Prestige APS-996 please advise. I've just finished installing the alarm/Remote starter and everything works except the remote starter, when I press the start key I can hear the relays clicking in the alarm but I get no exhast icon on the transmitter as the instructions indicate. I'm not sure I have the correct tach wire and if I don't will that prevent the remote start from engaging. I've verified all other connections and they are correct . If anyone has any Ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ------------- Kilo265

all of the prestige alarms and remote start have to have the tach programed and the hood pin installed once that is done i think you will be ok.

The Hood Pin would be the FIRST reason why it didn't crank the engine, and all you heard was the relays clicking.
The TAC sensor would cause it to crank, but not start, or not disenguage the starter once idle (this has happened), and will burn out your starter.
More the likely, though, if the engine does not even crank, the hood-pin sensor is not hooked up.

Not exactly, I just installed my APS-996 last weekend, and I dont have either of the hood or trunk pins installed, and mine cranks up fine. Make sure u followed the directions to teach the brain the tach, and you also have to program it to use the tach wire, they're are 2 options for it in the manual. Make sure you do that, once you program it to read the tach wire, and then it learns your vehicles tach rate, it'll work fine. I know, cuz I just did it!! What kind of car are you putting this on anyway?

Thanks for all the help, I had the correct tach wire and hood pin installed, but I didn't go through the routine to program the tach rate I found it yesterday and one I programmed it everything worked perfectly, Iinstalled it on a 94 Ford Thunderbird. Once again Thanks for the help! ------------- Kilo265

YES you must learn the tach or it will do nothing. it even says this in the install booklet.
