Working with a fleet of 06 and up ford superdutys and ecnoline vans. We are installing gps devices "tattle tales" and need to isolate the trigger wire for the driverseat belt sensor. Basically our device has a stat ware cable we can hook up for triggers, pto, door, dome, etc..... This customer wants to be able to monitor if the driver is wearing there seatbelt. We have found the 2 wires in the seatblt buckle but are unable to see any voltage between the wires or between each wire and a ground or hot. No continuity, or restiance change either. Have called ford dealership and they have been extremely un helpful. The seatbelt light in the dash is all circut board and cant find what wire feeds the ecm or circut board in the dash for the cluster. There has to be a way to monitor this circut. Something has to tell this light in the dash to turn on and off, and if it can trigger the light and a chime im sure it can trigger a relay for our purpose...

You will probably need to hook your device to a CAN decoder to get a signal, although I doubt if the on-board diagnostics record this, your Ford dealer is not being unhelpful, they are being ignorant and arrogant towards outsiders. I was at the largest UK Toyota dealership where they claimed the alarm fitted by someone else had immobilised the car and of course it was the alarm's fault. 10 mins. later I established or discovered a break in the factory feed to the OEM fusebox, and all I got was a scowl.

On the super duty's, the seat belt switch wire is BROWN / light blue for '06 and '07 model years. Wiring goes from seat, to left side sill and pillar and then to instrument cluster. On '08 and '09 years, it is blue/orange, the wire runs from the seat to the restraint control module...possibly a reason the dealer was unwilling to help. On the vans, '06 and '07 model years, the wire is also BROWN / light blue...routed the same way i think. '08 shows the wire as BROWN / light blue, '09 GREEN/ blue....both ending at the restraint control module. the trigger is shown as negative/ground with the belt unbuckled.

Maybe that's it......maybe you're testing these wires with the seatbelt buckled?
If I'm reading that last post correctly, the wire would show a ground with the seatbelt unbuckled, and buckling it would make the ground go away.
P.S. That sounds like a really cool system you're using, that has those trigger inputs.
I remember when I was a tow truck driver (before the days of GPS), seeing ads for products like that, that would record when the PTO was turned on (to hook up a car to be towed), when the tow truck's hood was opened ( to do a jump start).....so they could see if we were doing side jobs.
Anyway, what system is it you're using? Do you know of a distributor for this product anywhere in/near Massachusetts?

Another thing to consider is if the signal is actually a data signal. Some manufacturers are moving towards fail safe signals to detect faults in the wiring of the seat belt - this improves the effectiveness and safety of air bag systems.
