I recently installed a Ford factory remote starter in my 2005 Ford Focus. The unit I installed was formerly referred to as the "Gold" kit (2W7Z-19G364-AA). This was my first remote installation, but I do have some basic wiring skills and took my time checking all connections during the installation. I used all soldered connections for the install as well. Everything responds as it is supposed to when programming the unit and seems to be fully functional except the trunk release. When I unlock the car doors with the remotes, the trunk release actuates at the same time, instead of the 2 second delay the unit is designed to have. For some reason, the module is feeding power to the trunk release wire when it shouldn't. I have contacted the units manufacturer and they seem to think that the module may be bad, but I want to make sure there isn't something I did during the install before I bring it to the dealer for replacement (on a self install, the manufacturer requires all warranty to be performed by a Ford dealership). While I believe the wiring is ok, I am not absolutely sure. Could I have miswired something? Has anyone had any experience with this issue in the past? The kit was new in the box and sealed when I got it. Could it be that the remote fobs are defective?

ive never run across this personally but that doesnt mean it cant happen i would suspect the module but test to make sure, take the trunk release wire off and test to see if you get ground when you press and release the unlock button if you do i would get the module replaced
i would also check and make sure you didnt pinch wires when you put the car back together
i assuming your using the BLACK / YELLOW negative trigger in the drivers kick for the trunk and the tan on the remote starts A-harness i belive its pin 10 ??

Heres a good one? does the trunk release unlock the doors? (via the transmitter) On the car the connections aren't that close together. Perhaps a diode placed in line on the trunk pop wire might solve the problem. Whats even more interesting is the locks are negative, and the trunk pop is posative..... -------------

I usually grab the BLACK / YELLOW (-) trunk release wire coming down from the trunk release button to the left of the steering wheel. If you grabbed any wires in the kick, did you verify with a multimeter, the functions of these wires? The reason I ask, is because there are multiple BLACK / YELLOW wires down there.

I was afraid to butt in in case the wiring colours were different; bit Mikvot made the right point, loads of same colours. Check carefuly at your connections. KTM, they are ALL neg, locks, unlocks and trunk release. We have a switch for the trunk release, also that black / YELLOW won't work (here) unless the doors are unlocked, could that be a clue, i.e. a constant ground on the BLACK / YELLOW?

What's per Astro, sounds like a Malaysian Astra (Gary look up Perodua you're on holiday, you've got the time). No I didn't know about the Mazdz and I didn't care, had autochangers still been popular it would have made life easier to trunk mount one; they were always such a pain.

First, thank you for the responses to my post. I haven't had much time to get back to you all until now, so I will try to address everyone in this reply. I did double check all of my connections to make sure nothing was amiss (pinched, etc.). The wire connected to the black and yellow trunk release is the tan wire, pin 13 from the A harness. The transmitters I have are a four button type that shares the same button (unlock) for both the door unlock and the trunk release functions. The transmitter is supposed to have a 2 second delay hold down feature that will release the trunk latch. So, no, the trunk release does not unlock the doors, so to speak. Now for the infamous BLACK / YELLOW wires, argh!!! In the drivers side kick there are four of them that I can see (could be more, but I haven't seen them, lol), but only 3 are in use for the remote starter. I am not an electrician, so please bear with me here, as my understanding of the subject isn't the greatest. When I rechecked the 4 black yellow wires, I am pretty positive of the unlock wire and the trunk release. But, when I rechecked the BLACK / YELLOW that I used for the door ajar I had a voltage reading of 5.10 VDC with the door closed and 1.7 VDC with the door open and the unused BLACK / YELLOW indicated 5.07 VDC with the door closed and 0.00 VDC with the door open. Could this be my problem? I am inclined to think that I may have erroneously used the wrong wire here. And of course as soon as it stops pouring rain here I was going to check this out. Do any of you folks think this is the problem? Would having 1.7 VDC cause something like this to occur?

Sure enough, it was the infamous BLACK / YELLOW wire, I did have the wrong one. Problem solved thank goodness. Not sure what the BLACK / YELLOW wire I originally tied into goes to although it appears to have some relationship to the door ajar switch. Now the doors unlock without triggering the trunk release and the trunk release actuates after a 2 second hold down of the unlock button on the transmitter. Yippee!!!!
