First off, hello everyone. :)

I've searched this forum for Karr Alarm systems on how to assign the remote to the system and all that stuff, trying to troubleshoot my problem.

The previous owner of my current car said the car used to have an alarm system installed. I didn't bother with it until I found the unit for it in the back trunk. Everything was wired up, all it needed to be was plugged in.

Everytime I plug in 'power source', it honks multiple times for a good few seconds, then stops.

After reading and searching, I was supposed to put they key on the On Position, hit the switch on-off 3 times, then press the center button on the remote for 3 seconds or so, let it honk once and turn it off. But even when I press the key, it doesn't do a single chirp, it just does the continuous honks.

What can be the problem here, and how may I solve it?

Thank you.

I've seen a used Karr brain once. It looks to me like it's just rebadged Audiovox. I think Karr is an install shop in California, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I'm experienced with Audiovox, but not Karr......but anyway:

Turn ignition on, move valet switch to On position: This should disarm the alarm so that you can get on with trying to program the remote.

Then, turn the valet switch back off and turn the car's key off.

Now, to program the remote:   Turn ignition on. Move switch On Off On Off On Off........... you should hear one short honk/chirp.

Then you'd press......yes, I'd say the biggest button on the remote, and you should get a long (LOUD) honk/chirp......you've just programmed Channel 1. of the remote.

Does the remote have more than one button?

In that case, move the valet one more time On Off......you should hear two short chirps......now press whatever you think the second button on the remote would be.

Turn car back off....does it work now?

P.S. What's the build date on the brain?

The LED on the remote......press and hold one of the buttons on the remote......is the remote's LED flashing really fast, or is it steady?

To confirm your suspicion Chris. The 2040 and 4040 were both rebadged Audiovox systems. Karr is the brand name of the security system sold by Southwest Dealer Services, based out of California, and with multiple divisions across the U.S. All installs are front loaded or done for dealerships.
