Hi,
I have a viper 5900 installed in my car with the battery backup kit that is a couple years old so I tested it today by taking the battery terminal off and like a suspected the backup battery is no longer good. I want to replace this battery with a better battery because I am going back to college in a couple weeks and I know my cars gonna be a big target for criminals, I'm even considering hooking up a strobe light or something to make a huge scene. What kind and where online should I order a better quality battery to fix this. I don't want to buy the directed kit again just for the battery because I know that battery isn't even that good. It's cheaper to replace the siren. Been both routes and the batteries are very expensive, also the alarm communicates via data so there would be a compatibility pro blem. DEI themselves market one for Clifford G4, a second for G5 and a third for DEI.

Are you sure I can't just wire any rechargeable battery in? I just don't know the charging specs.

Howie, he said he has a bad backup battery. I'm assuming he has a 520t installed. Not a siren...
Rob, how do you know the battery is bad? How did you test it?

Mr. Worm is correct, removing battery terminal unless ALARM WAS SET TO ARMED is irrevelent. If you set alarm and you've no chirps but you do get warning chirps check to see that someone hasn't programmed it for silent arm/disarm, if it stays the same, i.e. no arm/disarm chirps but you still get warnings if say you leave hood or door open or warn away from shock sensor, then siren is OK.

I am talking about the DEI 520t, and I tested it by taking off the car battery terminal while the alarm is armed and nothing happens like it used to. At one point the alarm was disconnected for an extended period of time so that's when I think the battery was ruined. I'd like to replace it with a better battery.
