Just bought a Viper 5901 and had it installed yesterday. Loving the system so far.

I was reading through the manual when i came across the section that talks about Active and Passive arming modes.
I want it to be on Active so when I get out of the car, it locks and arms by it's self.
Can anyone tell me how to enable or activate that setting?
Thanks.

Don't do it. You will curse it. Especially when you leave your keys in the car. If ever a customer specified this, I got them to sign an "I told you so" waiver.

The terminology is actually opposite of what you think.

Active arming: Alarm does nothing unless you touch the remote.

Passing arming: Alarm arms itself (and, optionally, locks the doors) automatically, typically 30 seconds after closing the car's door.

Anyway, I agree with Howie. It's pretty much a good way to get your keys, baby or dog locked in the car.

You might, however, consider programming your system for passive arming, but active locking.

That way, when you do forget to press the button on the remote, the car will still arm itself and be protected......but it'll stay unlocked so your keys won't get locked inside.

Thanks guys. After looking over the manual I just decided to bring it down there and have them do it.

You don't need a bitwriter to tweak those settings. But i just didn't want to deal with the hassle of doing it myself lol. They did it for free.

I didn't have them put it to passive, they talked me out of it for the reasons you guys said.
I had them change the cranking settings though so it actually cranks the car, it was giving me trouble before.

Thanks again
