does this vehicle have to be bypassed in order to install a remote start system on it

If it has a pellet in the key (I am pretty sure it does) yes you will have to bypass it for remote start. You can bypass it during remote start with a relay and a resistor. There are many posts in the forum that cover this, and here is a nice diagram that shows how.

All Camaro/Firebird 1988-up have VATS. Most remote starters even include the instructions right in their install guides.
