Ok so I'm going to attempt my first auto starter install on my 99 Chevy Prizm, the starter is a Valet 551R. Now the car does not and never has had an alarm or starter installed in it before. So far I have printed the wiring diagram from here and have been reading the manual. I would just like to make sure that I have the proper wires going to the proper places. The stuff in bold and parenthesis is what is found on the cars wiring

If your vehicle has a factory hood pin...and it is a negative trigger...You would attach it to the gray from r/s...! If it does not , some r/s's come with them in the box , order/buy one  and mount it under the hood...! this is so if the hood is opened...the car wont remote start (safety first) ...! Can you post the wire description for the BLACK/ white wire...? In the H1 harness...you are hooking up a button to trigger the remote start  (WHITE/ blue) ...? If you look at the 2 wires going to the injectors...there should be a common color at each injector...Use the UN-COMMON color for tach input...Although that unit probably has tach-less and is not necessary to hook up tach...But recommend hooking it up for nice clean starts, even when its cold...! Do you have a multi-meter...? A 99 prizm really has factory security ...? posted_image

Thank you very much for the help.

Yes I have a very nice Fluke DM.

I see what you are talking about with the hood pin, it was not in the box, so I picked one up at the local store.

When you say a description of the BLACK/ white wire, could specify what info you are looking for? I have not started the install yet because I want to make sure I'm on the right track.

In the Valet instruction manual this is what it says WHITE/ blue wire:

Sending a pulse to this wire will initiate the remote start sequence. This wire can be connected to an auxiliary channel output of a security or keyless entry system or to an optional momentary switch to activate the start system

No the prizm does not have a Factory security system.

The WHITE/ blue wire as you have it would activate the remote start...Is that what your going for , to hit a button mounted in the car to remote start vehicle(as opposed to hitting a button on the remote...?)...This is normally used in special applications or adding a remote start to an existing security system...(so you dont have to carry 2 remotes...!) There should be a wire description farther down , that tells you what each wire does , this is what im after...! On some remote starts , you have to at least ground a wire in order for remote start to engage...I suspect that is what the BLACK/ white is for...?

Also if there is no factory security...the lt. GREEN/ black off of remote start is not needed...! Also there should not be a connection to the WHITE/ blue...unless you want another option to start car...besides the remote...!

Yeah you are right the Neutral safety Switch needs to be grounded and use a switch. Here was the manual says:

So I will not connect the WHITE/ Blue wire then since I dont want a push to start button.

If the car is an auto, connect that BLACK/ white to the REVERSE wire probably GREEN/ something, trace it back from the reverse light to one of the kick panels. If manual, you shouldn't be installing this but if you must, connect to the parking brake switch (at the handbrake's base) or feed to parking brake warning on the inst panel. If it ain't grounded it wont work. That black wire on Toyotas (I believe that's what this is) is also found at the OBD ll socket under dash, drivers side. It's off to one side and it's black with silver dots.

Thanks for all the help guys :).

howie ll: Yes it is an Auto, so what you are saying is not to use a toggle switch, but instead hook the BLACK/ White wire to the Reverse wire, correct? Does it make a difference which way I do it? I like the idea of following the diagram in figure B.

Tommy:Thanks for the help I will def post up the results................lets hope I dont screw anything up lol.

Forget what I said before, you have a second option. My reason for reverse was that it sits on ground when inactive, but in that list you published in the first post it shows a RED cable as the neutral safety switch. Connect the black white to this.  Verify this i.e. red wire goes to ground if gearshift is in neutral or park, forget the toggle switch it's not needed.
