Hey everyone. I have a 1997 Mercury Cougar XR7 Bostonian Edition. I own this: https://www.lightobject.com/4CH-RF-Wireless-Remote-Control-1527-TxRx-Kit-Metal-case-P351.aspx . What I am trying to do is, I want to tap into the wires running to the power lock switch on the passenger (or drivers side) door so that i can use two of the channels on the wireless relay system I just mentioned in momentary mode to act as though someone was in the car pressing the lock and unlock buttoms. What I don't know, is which wires on switch I will need to bridge with two of the relays. (There are 7 total, two, which are smaller, I believe are for the lights in the switch). Any help???? Thank you.

The link I provided is not to a keyless entry device. It is just basically four wireless relays. Rather that conventionally plugging into the vehicles computer, as an oem one would, i simply want to use two of the relays to trigger the door lock and unlock switch in either the drivers or passengers door. And also, you mentioned those two wires... I know of those wires, but how do i wire the relays to them?

Well im assuming you can make the polarity whatever you choose...? Is there a manual to look at...? What type of relays are they...? Is it already set-up for a negative output...Or do you have to tell the relays what output...? I know its not a coventional keyless...My question is why not use one...? Anyhow...Does your car have factory keyless...? Do you know what polarity you need the relays to output...? Thats why i wanted to peruse the install/owners manual...! ------------- M.E.C.P & First-Class

I don't really get the polarity stuff. There is a manual online, and I already saw the wiring charts on this website, but they didn't help completely. They want a ridiculus price for factory. There is not a factory keyless entry system. The tx/rx device you see from my link is just four relays that are triggered by the remote. For all intentions and purposes, they are switches. What I'm getting at is this. When you're sitting in the car, and you press the button to unlock the door, the switch is making contact with one or some of the 5 wires going into the switch.(There are two others, which I think are for lights.) Which ones? This way, it would be like adding another power lock switch, only actuated remotely.

You dont need a factory OEM unit to add keyless to your car...You can purchase an aftermarket unit to do this...If all you want is keyless entry...These units are really cheap...! But if you already have the unit you mentioned...And can post the install manual...Im sure we can help...!

Well i liked the idea of using this unit since i would get to do more hands on stuff, and i would be able to use the fourth channel for something of my choosing. (lock, unlock, trunk, idk.) As far as manual, the only manual i ahve found is an owners manual, which contains nothing relevant.

The issue I see here is timing. Door lock outputs, from alarms and keyless entry units, are typically 0.8 seconds. The output of your unit doesn't have a timing option (that I saw). This means you will be overdriving your actuators and you will cause them to fail early. You can add timing components, but that will get messy pretty quick, when compared to the price of a purpose built keyless system. You should be able to find a keyless system that has trunk pop and an AUX output. ------------- Kevin Pierson

Yeah...I thought maybe the momentary would work ok...? I was worried about over-driving actuators too...! Hence my hesitation...! Was wondering how long the output was going to be w/ the momentary option...!

The mometary option is triggered as long as the button on the remote is held, therefore it wont be overdriving the actuators. Can someone just tell me which wires i need to cross? Pretend you were to go in the car with nothing but a coat hanger. How would you open and close the doors.

Send a pulse to the wires mentioned... Now how you do this with what you have...Good Luck...Make sure you test door locks to see if your giving them a + or a - pulse...But it is as easy as pulsing them...How long does the output stay active when you do use the momentary option...Any clue...? .5-.8-1.2...? Have you tested this...? How do you know what the minimum pulse will be...? ------------- M.E.C.P & First-Class

Thats the thing. I saw all those diagrams. I think that my car has the 5 type, but i was told that it was reverse polarity. either way, i dont know how any of that works. I am not trying to make this complicated. All i want to know is, if you were forced to use nothing but a coathanger to unlock a car, which wires would you cross? Cant someone just tell me the wires that are being crossed when the button on the switch is pressed. Thats all I want to know. When the button to unlock is pressed, which wires in the door are being connected? It doesnt seem like a complicated question... Thank you all for the help.

The wires i posted on the first page are the wires that are "crossed" when you hit lock or unlock...If the car had FACTORY KEYLESS...They are negative trigger...! That means a ground pulse on either the pink/green or pink / YELLOW will lock/unlock...Go buy a meter...If there is a Harbor Freight where you live...$2.99...If not...$15.00-$25.00...Buy one then determine if you have +/- door locks...After this it will be very easy...I dont think you have 5-wire type door locks...! They are probably negative...! But do you want us to tell you to put 12v to a wire that needs ground...? I dont know what else to tell you here...Pink/green...send it a -/+ pulse and it will lock...Pink / YELLOW...send it a -/+ pulse and it will unlock...So if you attached a wire to each one of these wires(pink / YELLOW...pink/green)...Then touched the other end of THAT wire to ground...it would either lock/unlock depending on which attached wire you put to ground...Same thing if you have + type door locks...Except instead of touching ground...you would touch 12v...and lock would go up or down...! I dont know what else to tell you...THE WIRES ARE THE SWITCH("crossed") WIRES...! Next time re-read the posts...once twice...How ever many times it takes...The answers have been present since the 2nd-3rd post...The rest of the time was used to assist you in not damaging your car or the unit...So I OFFICIALLY retire from this post...All i can say , It was apparent from the beginning you dont want to do this right...You just want to start touching wires...and if you could not understand. what was going on(info in posts)...Take it to somebody who does...Soooo...GOOD LUCK! ------------- M.E.C.P & First-Class

And this was...? Oh Well...! Glad you got it...! If you cant see someone getting frustrated repeating them self over and over and over...! I dont know what to tell you...I was as patient as possible ...I know basically how the unit you have works...But if the pulse is to long...Or if you never tested this...You have NO CLUE what the minimum pulse would be...Without this info...There is no possible way of telling you what to do safely or if your going to over-drive the actuators...! If you are farther away from the vehicle you might have to hold the button longer then normal...Giving you no way of knowing if your sending to long of a pulse to the actuators...Also if you are close to the vehicle and do a half second push on the remote...Does that defitnely 100% mean the output is a half second...? I dont think so...! Only way is to test it...! Heck...I couldnt even get out of you what type of relays they were...! I asked questions over and over and you would not answer them...Even an "I dont know" would have been fine...! Thats why it was recommended to purchase a Aftermarket Keyless unit...It has all the features you were looking for...It comes with an install manual...There is actually tech support for them...They are designed for use in cars...Probably has better range...! Is there extreme hot/cold where you live...Has this unit been tested/used in these situations...?? ------------- M.E.C.P & First-Class

Look, I was planning on testing the momentary output of these relays. And you gave me that idea. You make many good points, but the problem was that I understood many of the questions you asked as rhetorical. In any event, I will indeed test this. Isn't there some default over-actuation safety feature in the power locks as they are? Won't nothing bad happen if a driver holds the lock or unlock button for an extended period of time? You really needn't respond, I told you that I was all set, and I am. I will confirm whatever I do with my mechanic friend. He is extremely knowledgable, and I have seen his work, so I am not doubtful. It seems as though you placed an unnecessary amount of effort into proving yourself with your last three i-told-you-so posts. It really isn't necessary. I already thanked you, now let us just move along. Thank you again.
