We have installed many remote starter systems (mostly Prestige)in late 90's Chevy Blazers. For whatever reason when you remote start the car the running lights do not come on, you have to 'jump' them to get them to come on by flipping the switch. This has happened in every remote start system we ever installed in a Blazer. Audiovox Tech says that is how it has to be. But I know there has to be a way?!?!?

I use Audiovox products too, but I've never paid any attention to whether the DRLs came on with remote start on Blazers....if it was my car though, I'd rather have just the parking lights on anyway.

But I guess the next step is to think about this: What is different about remote starting the car, as opposed to starting it with the key?

I can only think of two things: Under remote start, you're not powering up the brown radio-accessory wire, and you're not grounding the light green keysense wire.

Next car you do, use a jumper wire to temporarily shoot power to the brown wire while the car is remote starting....if that fixes it, use a relay and the light blue "ignition 3" wire to make it permanent.

We have tried to jump the brown wire but it did not make a difference. The key sense wire might be the problem but if the car is remote started you can still flip the switch on then off and the lights will then come on with the key still out of the ignition???

Try this ( I'm pretty sure this will work for the Blazer ):

  • 86 : Ground Out When Running
  • 30 : Chassis Ground
  • 85 : Starter Wire from Blazer
  • 87 : Tan/White wire from Ignition harness
  • 87a : NOT USED

There is a wire that needs to see ground when cranking. YOu are looking for a larger gauge wire that shows ground in the start position.

Post your results, thanks.

as another thought, most remote starters will energize the accessory leads when cranking the engine. when using the actual key to start the vehicle, only the ignition lead remains hot, the accessory power leads are shut off temporarily.
