hello, i just finished installing the compustar remote start in my mazda 6 06 and i installed it all execpt for the door lock relay part.. im confused on how to build the relay and which wires go to which number on the relay... i have the relay and 1k resistor i just cant figure it out... any ideas please help me out..
the wiring diagram states this:..Notes: Lock is negative trigger thru a 1000 ohm resistor. Unlock is a straight negative trigger. MUST use relays.

WHAT kind of alarm/rs...!? If it is just a negative trigger...Take unlock wire from alarm directly to the lock/unlock wire in car...Is it unlocking...? Now the lock wire off of alarm/rs...Place the resistor in-line...then attach the lock wire off of alarm/rs to the unlock/lock wire in car...! Good luck...Im not real familiar with compustar so a model # would be great...!

i have the compustar RF-P2W900 its just the remote start version, i didnt mean alarm.. so i understand the wires just which connections go on the resistor and where.. like what wire goes to the number on the relay... the compustar has negative output..

So cut the lock wire...put one end of resistor on one side of cut lock wire...the other end of resistor to the other cut lock wire...Now attach it to the single wire door lock system...ARE they just negative outputs on that r/s for door locks...? ------------- M.E.C.P & First-Class

On the lock wire sectionof your R/S are there two wires or six? If two you wil need relays, if 6 the relays are inbuilt and follow Tommy's post. If two wires, wire as follows:- Lock wire relay 85 constant12v+ to 30 and 86 via a3amp fuse, 87 via your resistor join with unlock to vehicles lock/unlock wire. Unlock wire, might work direct but suggest using another relay and joining to 85, same power feed as lock to 86 and 30, 87 to vehicles lock/unlock wire joined with lock wire. If 6 wires they will be marked thus. Lock n/c, lock n/o, lock common Lock n/c not used, lock comm on, to ground, lock n/o to vehicle's lock/unlock wire via your resistor. Inlock. Unlock n/c not used, unlock common to ground, unlock n/o to vehicles lock/unlock wire. Are you sure it's neg via a resistot to LOCK? Every other vehicle with this system, e.g. Euro VWs has straight neg to lock and resistive to UNLOCK. Check.

my alarm has two wire negative output.
howie, the diagrams tell me its a negative via resistor for door locks..

I just checked with DEI's Directwire, you're quite correct, the resister is on the lock side so use the 2 relays as I posted above.

ok i got this part down..

Relays are needed both sides because they lock ouput current is probably TTL or chip derived and possibly not enough to trip the lock, definately not enough on the lock side, do the unlock as a safety precaution to protect the circuitry of your unlock, that's why DEI and Compustar recommend 2 relays.

ok but im confused on how to hock up two relays to the lock system... do i just basically make a realay for lock wire and one relay for unlock wire.. but from my understanding my car is one wire unlock and lock...

That's correct mr spingjp! one wire is lock and unlock! The relay is a must when your application requires resistors! Reason being is that there would already be resistance on the alarm's output circuit placing the resistor inline with this directly would therefore increase the resistance and result in a no function result! The relays ensure that there is very minimal resistance if any to prevent this from occuring! That being said! Here's how the relays would be wired! The lock relay Pin 85- lock trigger Pin 30- ground Pin 86- twelve volts constant pin 87 to the car's lock wire via the resistor The unlock relay Pin 85 - unlock trigger Pin 30- ground Pin 86- twelve volts pin 87 -to unlock wire ------------- COMMIT YOUR WAY TO JEHOVAH AND HE WILL ACT IN YOUR BEHALF.

Also Darren you're absolutely right and I thank you and apologise to spingjp. How to blow fuses, or in fact watch nothing happen.
