hey there guys, i was wondering if you could give me a hand figuring this out. about 6 months ago i had a remote starter insalled in my girlfriends 07 dodge caliber. when we got the car back after install the car would only start with the remote. we were about to take it back to the company to get it fixed but the place went out of buisness. any ideas of what the problem would be? when you try with the key, the car will almost turn over but then die. any advice will be appreciated. thanks alot

check by the key cylinder if they used a key bypass its possible it is staying engaged all the time

take off the steering shroud and remove the ring around the key cylinder

hope it works for you if its anything more than that i would go to a shop

the dodges use  a multiplex ignition system and can be complex if you dont know much about it

Where are you located in Alberta ? If the shop used a bypass, did they take one of your keys and placed it in a box ? If not, then chances are the module is in fact staying on when a key is being used. To check that, place your key in the ignition and note the RED LED in the dash, if it's flashing quickly when you insert the key in the ignition, then it's either seeing two keys or the key that you have in the ignition has been kicked out of the BCM. Do you have two keys that start the vehicle ? Do both keys NOT start the car ?

This was done in athabasca Alberta. They gave us back both keys when we got it installed so they never hid a key. Neither of the keys will start the car. And I don't know if this makes sense but after we have driven for a while and we try and start thecar with the key it works but only sometimes. I will check about the red light when i home and get back to you on that. Thanks alot for your help

if the bypass stays on it can cause the car not to stay on and only on with the remote start. You may have a 556c or a ring around the cylinder staying on. Remove it and it will turn on the car.

I'm suspecting that the ignition switch connections may be faulty - chances are they've connected heavy gauge wires from the remote starter to the very small wires at your key cylinder.

Depending on the method of connection, the factory wiring from the switch could be damaged. Not certain, but worth a look.

if they installed an anti-grind relay there may be a poor or intermittent connection
