Subject: service engine light remote starting

I recently installed a Hornet 569T remote starter in my fathers 2000 Chevy Express Van and bypasses the security aswell. I've installed many remote starters however this one is different. Once I remote start the van and runs for few seconds the Service Engine light appears. It does not happen when starting the van by key. Any ideas why? I have double checked all the wiring and all is correct, however I should add I did not wire in the tach wire, could that be the reason?

The tachometer connection is for the remote start to know the vehicle is running. It controls the length of time the starter is engaged. In my opinion you should hook it up to ensure the vehicle starts correctly every time you remote start it. Not hooking up the tach will not trip the check engine light. However not hooking up a required ignition or accessory wire will trip it.
What vehicle wires did you not hook up?

All wires are hooked up, only tach not wired. I have ign 1 and 2 wired, ign1 being pink/white and ign 2 being white. I wired Accessory 1 but not 2 and today I just wired Acc 2 to Acc2 since the remote starter does not have Acc2 output.

I think you need to verify power on the white 2nd ignition wire with a DVM. No power there will trip the light. Tach won't matter. What bypass are you using?

I am using the resistor to bypass it

Tach is not relevant to your problem but ignition 2 (white) is....make sure your connection is working good with your multimeter, also...you should get a bypass module like PLJX from Bypass kit or others because installing a fix resistor is really unstable and can trigger the check engine light. You should also feed the second accessory wire(Brown) using the small orange (-) output to trigger and external relay. I came accross GM vehicules the needed the brown wire to be connected. Today I wired the 2nd accessory so we will see if the code goes away. I double and triple checked the 2nd ignition and its good. The resistor bypass works fairly well as I have done that type of bypass for a while and not one has let me down, its getting the correct resistance so I dont believe thats the problem.

Did you use the pink/white for your second ignition? If you used the negatives outputs to trigger an external relay, if you own a Directed Bitwriter, check the negative output timing, make sure it triggers as soon as the receiver receives the signal and not later. There is a timing issue between the blue and blue/black wire...if my memory serves me right, I believe that the blue wire activates faster than the blue/black. ------------- Sylvain Rochon

2nd ignition for a 2000 Chevy Express van is a white wire, I am using the pink/white from the remote starter and its wired to the van's white wire.

I have access to technical help at directed, I'll call them on monday and see what they have to say....Question, you wired your passlock as version 2...right? So you measured your resistance with the motor running, voltage divided by current....E/I=R.

I know is passlock 2, what I did was I measured the resistance with the key in the On position and while running, and everytime I got 2.1K and that is the fixed resistor I am using and no security light. The van starts up and stays running, everything is working.

Once the resistor was wired in I did the key relearn procedure and the car learned the value of the resistor. I cut the yellow wire and wired the resistor to the car side (not key side) yellow wire and the ORANGE / black wire. Once the resistor was wired in i put the key and put it to the on position and after 10 min the security light turned off, did that three times and now it learned the resistance.

Ok so the problem has gone away, after wiring in the accessory 2, its been now 2 days and no more Service Engine light. I still have not wired in the Tach wire but it seems to start everytime. Where is the Tach wire location and color?
