I called a local car audio/alarm shop in search of the C3 add on module for the Autopage RS 1000 OLED.  He gave me a price and asked me where I purchased the Alarm unit from, I told him online as I do all my alarm units and many other electronic devices.  He then laughed, saying that all alarms purchased online, particularly autopage, are refurbished items.  He said that the reason they can sell online are because they are not NEW units and that companys such as autopage prohibit buying online units and will not warranty those items.  Is this correct?  Or is this guy hoping that I will not purchase online and purchase from in-store owners only?  I found that very interesting, but not sure if this holds any truth.,

Thanks.

While its true that items CAN be refurbished, NOT all of them are.
Its a possibility that even that local store has refurbished items too.
When you purchase an item at an unbelievably low price, I would call the manufacturer with serial # in hand and simply ask them if the item is refurbished.
Sometimes when an electronic is refurbished the manufacturer will simply slap on a sticker on the chassis of the unit (which some retail outlets will simply remove and sell as "new")
Any time you buy from a "non-authorized" dealer the company CAN deny you ANY warranty even on manufacturer defects.
