My friend is having trouble with his van.  The alarm was working perfectly all the time and just stopped one day.  We changed the battery in the transmitter but that didnt help.  The alarm doesnt arm or disarm and the remote start doesnt work.  The transmitter doesnt work for it either.  The alarm was set for active so it won't arm on its own.  I took a look at the wiring and everything looks good.  All fuses are good.  Here's the weird thing.  I figured that maybe the remote needs to be relearned so I tried programming it but that doesnt work.  The siren doesn't chirp and the led doesn't blink to tell me that I am in the programming mode. It's like the alarm is dead.  I checked all power and grounds and all are good.  What else could it be? One more thing, When I disconnect the main harness from the alarm and reconnect it back the car will remote start on its own with no input from the alarm, is that normal???

Check to see if the antenna was damaged or unplugged. Also check to see if the system is in valet mode.

Hey, thanks for all your help Velocity Motors.  I got it to work.  It turned out to be a bad remote transmitter.  And there was an external antenna. It was hidden for some strange reason.  thanks again
