headlights and reverse lights w/ key fob

I could think of a couple of ways to do it depending on your budget and skill level.

I did the same thing on a car I had, and it was very nice, although I use an output from an aftermarket alarm to do it.

Anyway,

The simplest would be to configure two relays, one to power the headlights, another to power the backup lights, and use the car's domelight wire to activate the relays.

You'll also want the relays to only work with the ignition off, so that if you turn on the domelight while driving, you don't confuse other drivers with your reverse lights.

However, doesn't your domelight also come on for a short time when you park and turn the ignition off? Every time you park the car the outside lights will come on too......good or bad?

Another, more sophisiticated way to do it would be to get a timer relay, and have it triggered by the driver's door unlock actuator.

That way, whenever you unlock the door, the outside lights will come on for a specified period of time.

Check out the PAC TR-7 or DEI 528T timer relays.

P.S. There are actually two reasons you don't want these lights coming on while driving. Not just to not upset other drivers or get pulled over............but I learned (you could imagine how!) that at least on a Toyota, if the car's computer "thinks" that it's in Reverse, at the same time the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) "sees" forward motion, it turns on the Check Engine light and sets all kinds of codes. Not sure about a Ford, but you wouldn't want that to happen with your car.

So whatever setup you do, I think you definitely want it to be disabled with ignition on.
