Hey, First time poster long time reader of these forums. I installed a soliniod in my boot no problems at all but im having trouble hooking it up to my central locking the soliniod opens the boot when i tap the power cable to the battery. How do i hook it up to my central locking? my central locking has an output for the boot but that only out puts around 0.5volts which is not enough to activate the soliniod. Could someone please explain what i need to do. The only advice i have found is use a relay if someone could please explain what i need to do with the relay it would be much appreciated thanks if you need more info please ask i would realy like to get this sorted out soon

what type of solenoid are we talking about? door popper, actuator? you first need to find out what type of polarity the solenoid is. most that i have seen are reverse polarity, but they all vary brand to brand. once you have found what trigger it requires, then can you start tapping into the door lock wires usually found in the door, dkp or up high in the knee kick. also dont forget to tell us what car or we cant give you diagrams/wire colour

This is the soliniod i have https://www.dynatron.co.nz/item_universal-electric-boot-solenoid-kit_5739 its hooked up in the boot only two cables from the solinoid one is grounded in the boot the other one is the power one. it unlocks the boot when i tap the power cable to the battery. The central locking in my car is not stock. my car is a 1998 mitsibithi lancer gli

I can only assume that your central locking system has a negative output that will only trigger a relay. If this is true, the following should help you. Connect that wire to terminal 85 of the relay. Connect terminals 30 and 86 to the battery via a 10 amp fuse mounted at the battery. The wire that you touch to the battery that makes the solenoid move, connect that wire to terminal 87.

I have never seen an alarm or keyless module that puts out 1/2 of a volt. Using a digital volt meter, attach the red lead to a known good 12 volt source. Now touch and hold the black lead to the wire that you say has 1/2 of a volt on it when the boot is to be activated. Press and hold the button that would release the boot. Notice the reading on the meter. If the meter reads anything over 8 volts or so, follow the instructions in my earlier post.

Let's start again, I'm half asleep still! The type of relay you wanted is in the link you posted, look under accessories. N.B. I don't know the exchange rate of the NZ $ against the £ but those prices are extortionate.
