Ok here's the story I got this caddy all stock the alarm worked perfect factory. So the battery went bad I changed it and the alt. So now the alarm works when it wants to it goes off at weird times sometimes the buttons don't work . I would turn off the car lock the car with the wireless keyfob and the security light would stay lite all night or if I locked it with the power locks it will stay lite. If I locked all doors one at a time it would blink all night. So I bit the bullet and got a new alarm a viper 5900. Now it works however thw security light stays on solid when it arm the viper or if I lock the doors manually it will blink all night. And now I have had a hard start. But it turned over. Is there a way to overcome this. The guy intstalled the viper just took out the bulb that blinks for the security on the dash will this fix this or is it more to it.

If he's taking out bulbs instead of fixing things, he's likely to be..........well, I don't have anything nice to say about people who "fix" things that way.

If you have the owner's manual for the car, try to read up on how the light works and how the alarm arms and disarms.

I'm pretty sure that if you lock the doors while they're open, then the light should stay on steady until you close the door.

Since the light stays on steady, and you also said you have false alarms sometimes, I'd say maybe one of the door pin switches is bad.

Also, the alarm should probably only flash the lights and honk the horn........if the car is hard to start, it probably has some other mechanic problem.

And in what way are you having a "hard start?" Does it make strange noises, smoke, anything like that? Or do you just have to crank a long time to star the engine?

Thanks for the reply . I noticed before I got the alarm installed that sometimes the light would turn off when I exited the car and I narrowed it down to the drivers and rear drivers door. Maybe it could be the switches in the door jam are bad. Someone else told me that but. The lights aren't on when the doors are closed. Can they still be bad. As for hard start it cranked longer than usual. I also argee with just taking the bulb out . The shop I went to use to be the best of the best and since my last visit they have gone way down in overall service. As for hard starts since the bulb has been tooken out haven't had any starting problems. What else could have triggered this

The alarm went off today it was the factory. So I chirpped the viper key fob and the alarm still is going off. The factory alarm has the headlights and horn and the aftermarket has the siren. What I'm thinking is the factory alarm wasn't deactivied completly. The only way I could get the alarm to go off is to put the key in the drivers door. Any suggestion on what's going on here.

Hmm, well, sorry to say, but there's another sign of an install error.

Ok......so the car's factory alarm appears to have a problem. That's not the shop's fault, and I suppose they'd be right to charge you to fix it.

However, there's no excuse for not having the Viper disarm the factory Cadillac alarm. It's easy, too.

There should be a wire coming in from the driver's door, light green, that will test as a negative every time you turn the key to the "unlock" position in the driver's door.

The Viper should have a "factory alarm disarm" output (light GREEN/ black, I think) that puts out a pulse every time you unlock with the Viper remote, and also every time you activate the remote starter.

All that is necessary is to connect the Viper's factory disarm output, to the car's factory alarm disarm wire.

That still won't fix whatever's really wrong with your factory alarm....but at least you will be able to disarm it with the aftermarket remote.

P.S. Supposedly if you just take the Cadillac's light green disarm wire, and connect it permanently to a ground in the car, the alarm will not work anymore, so it can't give you problems.........I have NOT tried this so I have no idea, but you could give it a shot.

P.S. Not a professional mechanic by any means, but I own all GM cars and have seen many of their problems.

Try something.

Next time the car sits overnight, turn the key to the Run position, wait about two or three seconds, and only then turn the key to the Start position and try to start the engine.

Do you still have to crank the starter for a long time to start the motor, or does it start right up like it should?

If turning the ignition on and waiting a few seconds makes the car start correctly, you're probably losing fuel pressure overnight. By turning the key on and waiting, you're allowing the fuel pump to pressurize the system.

Anyway, unless you have fuel leaking on the ground, what this generally means is that the in-tank fuel pump has an internal leak.....instead of holding pressure overnight like it should, it's releasing the pressurized fuel back into the tank.

If you're at that point, the fuel pump won't fail tomorrow....but it also doesn't have a whole lot longer to live either.

On the anwser to your question yes it would be longer to crank it up after it has sit all night. But one of the reasons is that the factory security light has been on all night blinking if I manually lock the doors or if I lock it when the key fob (if it works) or the drivers door the telelight will stay solid. And as for trying to start it back to back. It will start the same. Since he removed the bulb I haven't had the starting problem the only problem I had is the old key fob working and the alarm going off. Also I don't have remote start

So I went to the shop on the 16th they said they corrected the problem the factory wireless keyfob doesn't work I'm good. So at 9am my factory alarm goes off again. And I go out there and the factory wireless still works. Any suggestions, this is getting old. I'm going to tell the mechanic to do what was suggested above but anything else.

Another question I had is couldn't they cut off the power source , but I know the ignition is tied to the alarm and the key has the resistor in it. Is that possbile to do.
