I have an s-10 pickup that I have converted into a hardtop convertible. I have done this before, but have always had an issue with small water leaks. On my next truck to end the leaks, I want to convert the windows to drop down (about an inch) automatically upon opening the door; and to go up when the door is shut. This is common on the new Camaro, Ford Mustangs and PT Cruisers. How do I go about wiring this type of system. My door handles are shaved so entry is by remote already. Please don't kill me if I did not post this correctly. Thanks, Jason

I am sure that DEI makes a suitable device. I am not familiar with their equipment. Howie should know which of their pieces will work for you.

Use a 53 t, wire it to vent and pulse it from a door unlock wire. This will give you 2 x window close on arm and vent with unlock. Assuming the factory keyless can be used this way or there's an aftermarket alarm and or R/S installed.

I think he meant a 530T You may want to look here https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/downloads.asp?srch=all&term=530t to see if this makes sense. Also we can help you with a delay for the door opener so the window will go down before the actuator unlatches the door.

Sorry, Danny Crane syndrome, yes, I meant 530t. Just this time we won't kill you you've asked a straight forward non moronic question which deserves a reasonable answer. So any problems, please ask on.

Okay...okay...I am no expert, but have played around with wiring before (relays, electric window conversions, alarm systems, and electric doors)...so I do have a little understanding, BUT definitely going to need a little more guidance. In looking at the 530t Installation manual (the first one of four on the link that was posted above), how would I add a delay into the system so that the solenoid opens the door after the window goes down? Also, I don't need the window to roll all the way down, so should I control the up and down with micro switches? How would I add them into the system? Thanks for the help...you guys got back to me quicker than I could imagine.

I will draw you a diagram for the delay circuit if need be. Basically what has to happen is place a diode and a resistor in series with the feed wire of the coil of the relay that will trigger the solenoid that opens the door. A capacitor needs to be paralleled across the coil of the relay. The value of the resistor and the capacitor determine how long the delay is going to be. The relay will not activate until the voltage reaches around 7 volts.

If you wire the 530t as per instructions one wire is for venting. Use the unlock (I'm assuming there's an unlock as well as a release) to pulse the vent wire, this will bring the windows down about 3". Hit the unlock a second time and you will open the windows a further 3". If only a release follow Mr. I's instructions he is always right about cicuitry.

You could possibly do it with a few time delay relays and a "all the way up" limit switch per door. Set it up so that the windows drop for 1 second if the door is open AND the windows are all the way up. Then, when the door is closed have them go back up for 1 second. By law, if the windows don't open over a certain amount, you don't have to have an anti pinch system in place. As long as you keep the times as low as possible the risk of damaging a motor over the long run would be low. ------------- Kevin Pierson

Okay, Okay, Okay. I am tackling this project in two weeks. I need help with a wiring diagram (I don't know whether it will be easier to communicate off-line...if so my email is plainperfection@yahoo.com) Should/can I wire the system with the 530t? The vent option on the 530t seems perfect...however, I am confused if it can be wired to do what I need...Or is there another way to create my own circuit(s) that can pulse up and down? I have electric doors (without door handles on the outside) and access the car with a remote. Once the remote is pushed, this would activate the window to drop (and as previously stated) I would like for a split second delay before the electric door activates. But then when I am seated in the truck, I would be using the interior door handle to open the door. If this is the case, I would need to have a switch activating the window to drop. I assume this circuit would be the same for the switch that activates when the door is shut for the window to go up. I would need to have a switch that shuts the system off when the window is already down. I am trying not to sound redundant with my posts. I keep running through scenarios in my head and on paper, but know there has to be a simpler way to do this. I really think it would be trick and detailed for the windows to operate like a new car. Thanks for your help guys.

The 530t seems to be the best option here, although as stated by Kevin you can build a circuit, the 530t would be simpler, and it already has the built in resistance circuitry that will switch it off when the windows are either all the way up or down, having them go up on arm is basic, the venting requires a constant negative trigger for a couple of seconds well for it to vent. What type of system are you using?

Okay. I just looked at the wiring diagram for the 530t. The up/down venting option only works by remote. How do I bypass this so it works off a switch?

once the switch or trigger signals ground for the three second duration you're set!
