I need some assistance for someone who has installed a Viper 5301 remote start.

I have just installed one into a 2002 F-250 superduty (7.3 power stroke turbo diesel) with an automatic transmission. The door lock and unlock work form both remotes, but the remote start function does not. When I press the remote start button on the 2-way remote, I get an error beep from the remote and the black box in the vehicle has an internal relay(s) turn on and off 7 times.
There must be some error in my wiring. This is how I have it hooked up:

Harness 1:
H1/1     RED / white trunk release: not connected
H1/2     Red 12v (+) connected to the yellow 12V(+) wire at the ignition connector. Verified 12V(+) with multimeter

H1/3 Brown (-) horn: output not connected
H1/4 WHITE/ brown Light flash:   not connected
H1/5 Black ground : hooked to vehicle ground, verified with multimeter
H1/6 Violet (+) door trigger input:    not connected
H1/7 Blue (-) factory horn input:   not connected
H1/8 Green (-) door trigger input:   not connected
H1/9 BLACK/ white dome light output:   not connected
H1/10 WHITE/ blue (-) remote start/turbo timer activation:   not connected **
H1/11 white parking light output: connected to brown parking light wire at light switch in vehicle
H1/12 orange grounded when armed: not connected

Aux harness (H2)
Not connected (not using wait to start light, going with built in timer)

Heavy Gauge 8 pin connector
H3/1 Pink (+) ignition input: connected to RED / green wire at ignition connector, verified 12V when key is turned to run.
H3/2 RED / White (+) fused ignition 2: connected to 12v(+), yellow wire at ignition harness
H3/3 Orange accessory output: not connected
H3/4 Violet starter output: connected to GREEN / WHITE wire at ignition harness
H3/5 Red ignition input 1: connected to 12v(+), yellow wire at ignition connector
H3/6 Pink.white ignition 2 : not connected
H3/7 Pink/Black flex relay input: not connected
H3/8 RED / Black (+) fused accessory/starter input: not connected

Remote start 5 pin connector
1 BLACK/ white (-) neutral safety switch input: connected to vehicle ground
2 Violet/White tack input wire: connected to green tach wire found at driver kickpanel, part of some taped off wires that pass through firewall.
3 Brown (+) brake shutdown wire: connected to green brake wire at brake pedal connector, verified 12v(+) when brake pedal is pressed
4 gray n/o hood switch: connected to included hood switch, switch opens when hood is closed and goes to ground when hood is open.
5 blue/white defogger output: not connected
The door lock harness I believe is connected correctly as both the lock and unlock function
The included neutral safety switch is hooked up and switched to “ON”. The control center is hooked up along with the connector for the valet switch and LED.

** Could this be my problem here? It says the wire needs to see a single ground pulse for the remote start to activate or deactivate.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on what the problem may be.

did you program it for Automatic transmission?? default is manual and will flash 7 times.....

RED / Black primary wire must be connected... this powers ACC & Crank relays...

Thanks for the quick reply

I have not programmed it to automatic. I am hooking up the horn now, and will program it. I'll also hook up the RED / black on the 8 pin connector.

I'll let you know the results shortly.

I got the horn trigger finally hooked up and programmed the unit for auto transmission. All the red wires are now hooked to power, and voila: the start function works.

Thanks for the help kgerry.
