Hi all.

I have installed car alarms before, but this will be my first one with starter capability.  I have searched and found most of the information I need.  I am just looking for conformation on the H3 Harness to make sure I've got it right.  I looked at the information archived on this site for my car.  All MR2 wires are on the Ignition switch harness:

Alarm Alarm function                                                                          MR2                        MR2 Colour
H3/1 (+) Ignition 1 Input/Output                                                         Ignition                   BLACK / YELLOW
H3/2 (+) Fused (30A) Ignition 2/Flex Relay Input 87                     Constant 12V+      WHITE/ Red
H3/3 (+) Accessory Output                                                                 Accessory              Blue/Black
H3/4 (+) Starter Output (Car side of original starter wire)            Starter                     BLACK/ White
H3/5 (+) Starter Input (Key side of original starter wire)               Starter                     BLACK/ White
H3/6 (+) Fused (30A) Ignition 1 Input                                               Constant 12V+      WHITE/ Red
H3/7 (+) Ignition 2/Flex Relay Output                                                Ignition 2                BLACK/ Orange
H3/8 (+) Flex relay input 87a key side (if requied) of Flex relay   Not Used
H3/9 (+) Fused (30A) Accessory/Starter Input                                Constant 12V+      WHITE/ Red
H3/10 Not used

If I am wrong please let me know.

Cheers,

Berg

Spot on! Is that vechicle caburated or fuel injected? just curious!

Oh, and one final question:  The remote start auxiliary outputs don't need to be connected at all do they?  They are the five -200mA outputs (flex relay control output, Accessory Output, Starter Output, Ignition 1, and status output).

Thanks in advance for the help.

Berg

The vehicle is fuel injected.... and supercharged.

Thanks for the confirm!

My mistake.  I will need the (-) 200mA Starter Output and a relay to bypass the clutch.

Thanks again for the help!

Berg

Okay, so after looking at the electrical diagrams for my car my last statement was incorrect.  The clutch switch is the last circuit interupter before the starter relay.  So if I wire the remote starter/starter kill wires into the circuit after the clutch, it will function the same as it always has with the key and the remote start will bypass the clutch by default.

One question I still do have is this:  I read a forumn were someone used the viper 5901 to control an ecu and a fuel cut relay.  Havint a car that is a manual with a removable roof, I figure this might be a good idea.  The viper cuts the starter but manuals can be push started.  So, can I use the grounded when armed wire to do this?  I am unclear as to whether or not the remote start will take this wire out of its ground state.  If it does this should work fine.  If not it will try to remote start the car while the fuel and/or ecu are cut.  Or would I be better off using some relays to turn a pulse into a constant output and use the factory alarm arm and disarm outputs from the viper?  I am hoping the ground when armed output will do it, it would be much simpler.  I am still waiting for the alarm to arrive in the mail and with the holidays upon us I do not know when I will find time to try this out.

Thanks again for all the help (I find most of my answers by using the search on this forum so its been a big help).

Cheers,
Berg

Ok, I answered my last question after some searching.

Here's another:  How many different versions of the 5901 are there?  I ask because I have seen many pictures of the unit online and my connections are a little different.  There is an 18 pin harness that incorperates the Remote Star Input and Remote Start Auxiliary Output in the H2 Harness.  Also mine has a fourth Auxiliary Output.

Berg

It also appears that I have lost the ability to use priority door locks.

Unless I'm missing something.  The Quick Reference Install Guide has no wire in any of the harnesses labelled as "2nd Unlock".  There is no wire labelled as light blue.  This is present in the install guide that is listed on this site.  The install guide on this site has a 2008 date and the Quick reference I have has 2009.  There is a side note on the wiring page that reads:

New Features:
- Enhanced Tach Filtering
- Addition of Aux 4 for a total of 5 Channel Outputs
- New 18 pin Harness
- Improved current capable Aux & OEM Alarm Outputs
- Enhanced Temperature Reading

However flipping the Install guide over to the other side there still is the option in Menu 1 - Security for 2n Unlock.  It is Item #8 and has two options: 1 - 2nd unlock on Ign-control after first unlock and 2 - 2nd unlock on Ign-control with first unlock.  I'm wondering what it means by Ign-control.

I tried to get info from the www.directechs.com site, but I can only seem to get the one page no matter where I click.  I tried to register but it said that my email adress was invalid.  It's not a huge deal, I just found it curious.  If you have any information I would be glad to hear it.

Cheers,
Berg

Just some thoughts, I did a 95 model last week. What t&t was getting at is this.. Does it start and run on the first turn of the key on a cold morning without having to pump the throttle?

Eh?  I'm kinda lost.  Are you referring to the question of whether or not its fuel injected?  To answer your question, I have had a little trouble with it recently but after replacing a faulty coolant temperature and bleeding the coolant system it starts fine.

Berg

I cant edit my posts.  It was supposed to say "faulty coolant temperature sensor"

With just the key turning or do you have to pump accelerator as well?

What do you mean lost control? I gurantee you without the shadow of a doubt that unit is capable of priority locking! Do you have an eight pin connector with the unit? It will have the light blue second unlock wire along with other wires!

There is no 8 pin connector.  I have H1 a 12 pin, H2 an 18 pin, H3 a 10 pin, The dool lock harness, the on/off switch for the remote start, the bitwriter port, the optional Mux port, the D2D port, and the connection to the control centre.  There is no light blue wire.  I will try and take some pictures later this evening for you.

Berg

I've taken a closer look at the alarm itself, and the date code printed on the bottom is for November of 2009.  My girlfriend has a Viper 5901 as well.  She had it installed at a shop so I haven't had a chance to look at the date code.  However, I can tell you that the packages that they came in were completely different (I have the cardboard box and she had the sealed plastic box designed to hand on hooks int he store).  The back of her box states that her alarm can do priority locks.  The back of mine does not.  It's not a big deal, I don't need priority locks, I was just curious as to whether or not people know if there is a new version of the 5901.

Berg

Update:

I have found the 2nd Unlock.  In Menue 2 - Convenience I can set any of the Aux signals (1-4 and Aux/Trunk) to act as the second unlock.

Berg

I didn't doubt you.  It just wasn't where either of us thought it would be (no 8 pin connector) and took me a while to find.  I guess this is a new version of the 5901.

Thanks to everyone!  Especially you t&t tech, you have been most helpfull.  I know have all the information and most of the parts I need to install this alarm.  I still need four relays:  trunk release, rear defogger, dome light supervision and parking lights flash (per the backup battery's instructions it can only supply power to the brain) and two more pins (one for the rear trunk and one for the front trunk).  I am also waiting on a plug I ordered for the optional sensor port.  I have time off between Christmas and New Year's so I will be installing then.  I am planning for a three to four day install.  I will be removing the entire dash and most of the interior for this.  My current thought is to mount the unit up behind the heater on the passenger side of the car.  I can then run most of the wires through the upper part of the dash.  I figure this would make it the most difficult to get at.  If someone has a better idea I am open to suggestions.

I will be installing:
-Viper 5901
-DEI 520t Backup Battery
-DEI 507m Tilt Sensor
-Commando Central Power Locking System (I had this lying around, so it makes sense to use it)
-Autometer EGT gauge
-Autometer Water Temp Gauge (I already have Oil Pressure and Temp)

I've always enjoyed installing stereos and gauges in cars.  It may seem silly, but I'm excited to do this!

Thanks again for all your help!

Cheers,
Berg
