Hello, im installing an astroflex on my 1997 VW jetta tomorrow.. ive only done about 5 or 6 installs total, and this is my first on a VW. Is there anything special to know about?
Reading online i found...
1. Parking lights are seperate L and R circuits. Switch must be isolated from remote 12v+ signal? Is this true, and why?
2. Ignition wire to factory alarm must be "open", wired by relay, while vehicle is running. Is this true, and why?
3. Truck open switch must be isolated from remote 12v+? True?
4. What type of door lock system is it? Has vacuum door locks...

Thanks everyone!

1)If not dioded apart will "fault report" through the vehicle OBD.
2)Will trigger factory alarm, switch side to 87a, output to factory alarm via 30, constant live to 86 and GWR to 85.
3)The CPU or comfort module goes into sleep mode. The hood as well as trunk go this CPU which then wakes up every 30mins or so and triggers the alarm. The trunk wire BROWN / black has a diode inserted with the band away from the module then you join after the diode, same for hood, BROWN / red, look at tech tip 1070 on this site. Not needed for doors as this AKA dome light control, is an output.
4) Not vacuum locks, neg in a loom in the driver's door extend lock pulse to close windows. If not factory power windows they will be at the comfort control.
Getting at the ignition wires is a PITA.

where do I find the "tech tip" section? I am going to be doing a r/s installation this weekend on a 1998 Jetta III manual shift and am trying to research as much as possible before that then

Look in downloads actually I made a mistake, its DEI 1076.

-------------
Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.
