I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab and a K-9 Classic with LED remotes. Do I need a GM immobilizer? I bought a XK01 from bypasskits.com. The K-9 alarm goes off randomly. The doors will not lock or unlock sometimes. Is there a way to get around this? The installer at the shop said I dont need the XK01 showed me a diagram from directedtech support showing a way to go rig with some relays to get the lights and doors to work? He would not let me have it and want $60 to strighten out my alarm. I appreciate any help as I am a rookie and take pride in working on my own truck. I have got a lot of different advice. No luck so far! Anything would help. It is embarassing to have the alarm always going off or have to wait after you arm in the parking lot it to see if it is going to work correctly. You could pretty much do the whole truck without modules, sure, but then you'd have a lot of extra labor to perform, including running wire into the doors and configuring relays.
The whole reason for the XK01 (or other similar module) is to not have to do all that extra work, and for a much cleaner and more reliable install.
The XK01 works fine on that truck and there should be no reason to change it or take it away.
So, you have two separate problems, right?
1. Alarm is falsing sometimes. I'm not familiar with that brand, but most units have some way to tell you which "zone" of the alarm was violated---doors, trunk, hood, shock sensor, et cetera.
The first step will be to get the alarm's owner's manual, and it's probably going to involve counting how many times the dashboard LED is flashing.....anyway, you need to know which zone is falsing.
2. Door locks not working sometimes. It can only be one of five things:
A. Your truck is bad.
B. Your XK01 is bad.
C. Your alarm is bad.
D. Your data connection to the car is bad.
E. Your lock/unlock connections from the alarm to the XK01 are bad.
It might take some testing and troubleshooting. Can you make the system fail again, while you have time to do some testing?
You'll want to temporarily cut your lock and unlock connections from the XK01 to the alarm.
Then, one test is to use jumper wires to manually ground the lock and unlock inputs to the XK01.....do they work all the time that way?
Another test would be to use your meter or other electrical tester to test the outputs form the K9 alarm. Do they always make a ground pulse every single time you press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote?
