I've purchased a Viper 5701 for my girlfriend's 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5SE (w/ automatic trans) as a Christmas gift. I'm also planning on purchasing a Fortin CAN-SL2 for its immobilizer features. Besides regular consumables like shrink tubing and solder, etc, I'm wondering what else I need for this install? I've searched this site and can't find anything I'm missing.
Here's why I ask: I'm planning on doing a covert install (take her car while she's at work, or pretend mines broke and carpool/borrow for day) so I can just hand her off the remote keyfob as a Christmas gift.
I've got the wiring guides from this fine website as well as the Nissan manual with wiring diagrams. I've successfully installed two remote starts before, but since Murphy's Law always comes into play when you're trying to finish a job in a hurry: I'm trying to be well prepared.
Is there anything else I need for this install? I'm assuming if I get a CAN-SL2 with the more recent firmware, that I should not need to upgrade it.
Your knowledge will help keep my Christmas schemes from turning into disasters! Thanks in advance!
you should be good to go. just bench prep everything and run the wires from the alarm/rs to the can-sl2 throught W2W (wire to wire) dont bother using the d2d or data port since it could cause problems down the road. its good practice and better to solder and heat shrink your connectors. if you decide not to solder, do a millitary splice on all connectors, and you SHOULD solder the 2 data wires taht go to the car at least. tuck everything away and make sure its clear of the brakes, and you should be able to get that car in and out in 4 hours.
btw, the can-sl2, check which version you have by going to https://ifar.ca/en/products/firmware.html enter your serial number and check. if you have the firmware 1.14 at least, then you shouldnt run into any complications. good luck, if you have probs post them asap. cheers!
oh just to note, fortin can-sl2 are shipped with a small card with a long serial number. go to wirecolour.ifar.ca, search for your vehicle (06 altima in this case) punch in the serial number, and a full complete wiring diagram with wire location will be presented by pictures ie shows wires function/location in the plug (pinout)
