Subject: check engine light on/remote starter.

I just installed a remote car starter in a 1996 Silverado last week-end for a friend. The check engine light is now staying on, all the time even when starting with the key. The engine starts fine with pro-start car starter. There was no white wire at steering column but there was a pink-wht second ignition wire that I didn't power up. Would that be the cause of the issue? I do have the wiring diagram to hook up 30 amp relay to power it up. I would like to get some feedback as to how I can resolve this issue, any suggestions?

Power up the 2nd ignition.  AVOX lists it as white so I assume that that's the white wire your talking about.  it might be a smaller gauge wire, but try powering up the pink/wht wire (if it does test as ignition), and see what happens with the engine light.  Try disconnecting the battery for about ten minutes...

I have never had a GM truck without this white wire, you are just not looking hard enough. Your pink/white wire is probably a RED / white and that is 12v constant.

You MUST power up the white IGN wire.

Ok thx a lot. The truck will be back in my garage tomorrow, will take a closer look for a white ignition wire and let you guys know how it turned out.

ummm.... the check engine light is going to stay on anyways, you need to reset it using a scanner tool.
I doubt the light will go off immediately after powering up the wire.

There is no white wire testing as ignition at the steering column so I powered up the pink/wht, it is an ignition wire. The check engine light is still staying on, I tried resetting the battery no luck. I didn't use a relay, there was a green wire on main harness of 2-way pro-start module that can be configured for second ignition. Any other suggestions?

Audiovox has the following info for that vehicle. THere are no notes for any of the wires.  You may want to compare this info to what you used.

My friend went to parts source and they were able to clear the check engine light using a scanner tool, for free! I'm glad that's over with. Lesson learned..always connect second ignition. Thanks everyone.
