independent proximity sens use?

wondering if I can use a proximity sensor as a stand alone unit without an alarm brain box and turn on a light with it. is this possible?

how would I do this and also control the time the light is on?

Yes link the output to a timed relay, DEI 528t won't give you more than 3 mins, Mr.I should be able to give you a circuit but you will need a relay or some form of current amplification because the out put from the prox will be at most about 100 milliamps at 12vdc.

hi howie II, I thought it would be possible since the sensors accepts 12vdc directly.

I'd like to see that circuit when you have time.

I understand that a relay will be needed for powering the light. I dont know where to start with the timed relay though.

Basically power up the red and the black to 12v constant and ground, then depending on whether single or dual zone and whichever output you use, take this out put to 528t black white trigger wire (85) 528t red (86) and black to constant live and ground, ground to yellow (30) output brown (87) to ground side of light unit. Don't use orange (87a).

if I power the sensor to 12VDC + & - then I should have a negative pulse from it when it has sensed something, correct?

if so then at this point I should only be using the negative pulse from the sensor for input and nothing else correct?

if so then how shall I convert the 12vdc ma negative pulse into a 12vdc 1-30 amp positive, timed output?

Pin 86 and 87- fused twelve volts at ten amps

Pin 85-  negative trigger from sensor

Pin 30- output to wire

t&t you will see I showed our friend how to wire it to a 528t timer/relay, perhaps I didn't explain myself too well. As a sidebar Mr. I is a circuit specialist and he could probably cobble up something from the spare parts on his bench I on the other hand spend my time out in the field. A Velleman timer kit costs me £4.50 + an hour of my time to build it. A 528t costs me about £7 ($10.50).

I see that howard! But he did say more than three mins! So i thought it would involve a relay somewhere along the line! I could be wrong!

Quite right Darren, but I realised the point about more than 3 mins that's why I mentioned Mr. I. The choice is either a 528t to do the whole job with a 3 min delay or a relay + cap + resistor to hold the relay for the required time. There's the 30sec relay hold in the relay section here you would have to juggle the cap and resistor sizes to get there.
