I have the Python 1400XPL Remote starter in my 98 Blazer.  It was installed for me, several years ago.  Never fully worked, sometimes it would not start, now it much more often.  1/4 of the time starts fine, 3/4, either a litle cranking, or serious crank and run for 1/4 sec., then shutoff.  tries three times, gives up.  "Shutdown Diagnostics" from the install manual, says  "(+/-) Shutdown" is the reason it shutdown.  I do not have a clue what that means.  I am handy, can solder good, install my own car stereo's, etc.  but do not have a clue what this means.  searched the12volt.com and the 'net, no help there.  Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like maybe a bypass problem...With a little re-learn tach/voltage...!

I'll try the relearn Tach./ voltage and see if that does it.  Wires are tied up neat and way out of the way, hard to check but will try that if T/V does not work.  Is this what (+/-) shutdown means?

Thanks for the help!

Not too familiar with that units diagnostic flashes or terminology...I would suspect that means like a hood pin or the brake...I dont think that is your problem...Usually it would either start fine then shut-down...or not start at all...It really sounds like the tach thing AND the bypass...You could temporarily insert a resistor and see if the car starts fine(for the bypass issue)...Can you see which bypass is in there...? Also...do you ever have problems starting it with the key after this no start happens...? If the unit has a full systen reset...That might be good to do before you proceed with the reprogramming of tach and the bypass...! But i guess it cant hurt to check those wires anyway(brake and hoodpin and neutral safety if equipped!) Did this happen after the vehicles battery is dead?(the no starts)...

Also...If you can unplug and reach a harness...you can check power/ground in the end of each plug...Probably good to test at the plug anyways...Lets you know that power/ground has at least reached that part...!

do you ever have problems starting it with the key after this no start happens...?   After first failure, If I', there, I will try to start it, before second attempt.  It will not start.  At second attempt by RS, I turn the key to manually start, and it cranks longer and starts the car.  I did adjust the crank time one step at a time, up to the max of 4 seconds, no help.  Resistor, any particular value, or will almost any one do?  I'll try to find the bypass tomorrow after work.  I do not believe this system has full system reset, as I can find nothing on it in either the owners guide or the installation guide.  I have had no dead battery issues.  I did reset the tach, and it sems to be working good for now.  Will run it through some paces tomorrow, to see how it works.  Either way, Thanks for all your help and information!

OK, this morning, tried to R/S, started then died in 2 sec.  tried again, started right up and ran fine.  Tried again after work, was running when I got to the car.  Tried when I got home, parking lights flash and relay clicks in time with them, approx 3 times a second, pretty fast, but not a hint of cranking.  tried several times, same result.  Took it for a drive, came home, same as morning.  ran 2 sec. died, second try worked great.  Is the rapid click of the relay and light something odd or what?

Did all the lights on the dash come on when you experienced the no crank...when you got home...? Also is tach hooked up...Or is it set to voltage...? You will have to test for the resistor value...! SO only during the no starts you get the flashing/clicking...? Or does the parking lights stay on or flash when remote started (which one when everything is working fine)...? Did you get a chance to get the model # of the bypass...? I'm sorry...I didnt pick up on whether or not you have issues starting the vehicle with the key after you experience the "no starts"...?

Did all the lights on the dash come on when you experienced the no crank...when you got home...?  Yes, all flashed in time with park lights.  Also, this blocks remote lock/unlock as well.  Remote lights up when I push the button, but car does not respond to anything, like R/S is "locked up" in rapid flash/click mode.

Also is tach hooked up.Yes, tach is hooked up, I assume, I followed the "Tach learning" steps from install manual, about 1-2 seconds, light lit constant to show tach signal was learned.  I did tach learn to try to reset it, on a whim, cant hurt and was easy.

SO only during the no starts you get the flashing/clicking...? Correct.

Or does the parking lights stay on or flash when remote started - Parking lights stay on when R/S works correctly.

Did you get a chance to get the model # of the bypass...?  Sorry did not get that yet.

.I didnt pick up on whether or not you have issues starting the vehicle with the key after you experience the "no starts"...?  Sometimeas yes, sometimes no.  With rapid click/flash, no problem, turn key and off we go.  If it just dies mid-attempt, and I am there, I can't just start it anytime with Key, no response from car.  I have to wait until it tries to crank again, and then turn key to hold longer, then it will start.
