Hi! I've been installing alarms/remote starts for awhile. This is the first time I've had this issue. I installed a 5901v into a 2004 F150. It works great, locks, remote start, etc UNTIL I start the car with the key, then it's dead. Won't unlock the doors, nothing. If I remote start it and it's running I can unlock the doors, etc but as soon as the key goes in and I hit the brake it's dead again. I've moved my ground, rechecked all my wires, everything is correct. I just set up a new account with DEI but I don't have my dealer number yet so they won't talk to me. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Did some more testing. Unit is running, I can hit remote start and it'll take over if I remove the key. I turned on ign controlled door locks and they work fine. The unit just won't respond to lock/unlock command when running on the key. Help!

EH! That's how it works, as far as i know anyway! When you remote start, the fob will function, once you step in, turn ignition on with key and step on brake the keys take over and the alarm will not function! You have no problem there!

The unit is built that way, once the unit is signalled via remote, the brain of the alarm will retard ignition sensing, until, it senses key takeover via the brake signal, Then the brain will be allowed to sense ignition and hence not respond to any of the fobs commands!

I noticed you said you have been doing remote starts for a while, How long would that period be? I'm not being harsh here, it's just becuase, that's a pretty elementary thing about starters, and not a fault, as far as i gather from your desription!

I have 2 cars sitting in my lot with an older version of the 5901 and then an even older viper but still 2 way. I tested both and I can use the key fob to lock/unlock with the car running with the key. Or at least I think they can... I'll check a third time. I can see the system not arming/disarming but lock/unlock, dunno could just be a brain fart of the day. I've been doing security products for about 10 years. My other username on here, themagicone, has a lot of post and points but since I haven't used it in awhile it won't let me post.

Vipers will not let you use the fob when the car's running off of the key. My 5701 will not, nor will my dads 5901
