I am having a problem with the park lights/tail lights staying on a 2004 X3. I removed some panels around the dash in preperation for a remote install and notice that the park/tail lights had come on. I thought I might have loosened the ribbon cable wire leading to the headlight switch. I took it apart and redid the connection.
Does anyone have any idea what would cause this problem?

Put the instrument panel and the lighting switch back, turn on then off the ignition, very common. Never remove a panel with the ignition key even near the ignition!

put all panels back together and drove it for a little while and still have the same problem... Park lights and tail lights stay on

OK disconnect both terminals from the battery, wait 20 minutes then touch the battery leads together, reassemble, then see. If it's still happening I'm afraid it's a trip to the dealer's diagnostics. Done hundreds of these cars and unlike VW they're pretty bullet-proof.

that trick didn't work either. I am convinced that the problem is one of the wires in ribbon cable leading to the switch.
Does anyone have any information on which of these wires is the park lights. I know the wiring info for remote install lists a grey/brown wire. There are 3 or 4 four of these wires supplying the light module that feeds the ribbon cable to the switch. I tried disconnecting them one at a time and the park lights continue to stay on.
If anyone has a headlight wiring shematic, I would really appreciate it.

Bad connection still need park light wire!!!
Found the problem. It was a bad connection in the ribbon cable leading from the light module to the light switch. There were a few wires that were not continuous from one plug to the other.
Now that I fixed the problem I have to find out which of these 10 wires in the ribbon cable is for the park lights to continue the remote install. I really don't want to take apart the plug connection and try the process of elimination. Does anyone know which wire controls park lights. I read a forum for another BMW and they were saying it was #7. Can anyone confirm this or save me from cutting it if it is wrong.
