Trying to install a backup camera I just bought for my 2001 Honda CR-V.
I have it mounted in the back but have ran into two problems:
1. The camera requires 12V
2. My viewing screen (aftermarket) requires 12V to the "reverse camera" wire only when the car is in reverse.
My idea was to tie into the license plate light to power the camera and to tie into the reverse lights on the fuse box to make the screen get 12V only when the car is in reverse.
Any thoughts? Better way to do this?
Thanks,

that would be the way to do it. get ground, and a switched 12v source from the reverse light. that way its only activated during reverse.

I just checked the fuse for the backup lights for voltage. They are definitely getting 12V BUT I'm getting 12V out of them even when the car isn't in reverse. That would suggest that the lights are actually switched at a different location.
Any ideas where I might find that location? It's not easy to follow wires while you're upside down underneath the steering wheel...

Actually, I've found it. It is a blue/black wire... found it by turning the car to on (in park) and randomly checking wires for voltage. Once I found a few that had no voltage, I switched car to reverse and checked them again and eventually found the one that had 12V when the car was in reverse.
I now need to fish my video wire all the way through the car. Anyone know how to remove the back panel on a CRV so that I can get the wire through?

Ok. Slight problem. I've finished everything and I took the car to test it one more time, and I noticed that the wire I tapped into is also supplying 12V to my screen while in Drive. Actually, it supplies 12V for anything except park. That's going to be a problem.
Can someone tell me where the Gear Position Indicator can be found? Or just anything connecting to the back-up lights? I really do not want to have to run a wire from the back-up lights to my screen because the wires have got to be there somewhere... I just, for the life of me, cannot find the correct wire.

Get it from the actual reverse lamp.

I was trying to avoid having to do that, but that's probably what I will end up doing... Running a cable from the lamp in the back all the way back to my screen.

Is the video signal wireless? Figure out what color the wire is at the lamp. It may be the same color under the drivers door sill cover plate, or in the kick panel on the drivers side.

No the video signal is wired - I've already run that wire.
Thats a good idea - I'll check the wire color...
Thanks.
