Hey guys I just ordered a 2w900fm alarm system. I asked the guy what model the brain was, he said it was a 5000. I cant even find a 5000 on the net. Anyway if there is a 5000. What is the difference between a 5000 and a 3000? Which one is newer, thanks for the help.

there are tons of compustar brains avilable. the model isnt just a compustar 5000 brain, the newest model is the CM5000 that has the alarm/remote start capabilities. also, the new modules are compatable with the BLADE or idatalink (ads) bypass/can kits.
The CM5200 model (fairly new) is just the starter, but can be set for passive alarm mode. The CM3000 doesnt support the blade, but the wiring is basically identicle to the new units.

well what was above is partially right, the newest compustar brains are the 6000 series, cm6000 being the alarm/starter and cm6200 being the starter only
But the 5000 is newer than the 3000 correct?
Also is their any problems anyone knows of with the 5000 model brain?

One minor difference; the CM5000 saw a change with one of the plugs to a friction connection instead of the old locking plugs. It wasn't really an issue as most other alarm companies use that style. But it did become more annoying to prep, and created a possible problem to troubleshoot down the road. So the Compustar dealers complained and Compustar listened and released the 6000 series shortly after. Even with the friction plug, Compustar alarms are still my favorite to install. They are, as said above, bulletproof units.
