Does anyone know how I would go about hooking up a back up battery to my door solenoids. If the battery on the car ever went dead I wanted a way to get in. I been looking around and i've seen posts of a possible 9v battery backup, does anyone know how I would do this. Currently the solenoids are hooked into the aux outputs on my alarm to standard relays. I've also noticed a lot of talk on the 520t backup although I don't think this is what I'm looking for.

hi,

i'd forgo the battery backup for the poppers. if it fails, you still won't get in the vehicle. don't believe a 9V battery will supply enough current to activate one anyways. the 520T might but you'd if it goes dead then well..

does you car have a trunk, without the lock shaved. if yes, then route wire(s) from the outputs of the relays to there.

if no, then make a post accessible beneath the vehicle somewhere. use a grommet as an insulator. stainless machine thread screw with a ring terminal attached with a nut to it. pass screw through grommet (washers on each side to compress evenly) . secure in place with locking hardware. route the wire on the ring terminal to the output of your relay. using jumper cables attach negative to frame, tap positive to post you just added..voila door opens

I have a hatch that still has a Key. Was your suggestion to mount the wires in the car and use the key to get in first to reach the wires?

yes, that's the idea..maybe have them accessible in a removable panel. still use the jumper cables of course. or climb on in.
